I started smelling gas a day or so ago, but chalked it up to flooding, although it only did that once. Decided

to check out everything this evening, and the pump is leaking like a sieve. It's pouring gas out from between the pump body and the motor. Back to the drawing board, sigh https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif Maybe I will get a Mallory this time? I have heard they're quieter anyway. Just what I needed in the middle of the work week, sheesh.,,,,BB

I'm not real hot on Holley electric pumps right now....... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

yeah i have a holley blue on my car right now for 2 months so for holding good. they say do not use teflon (i think i spelled it right) on your fuel lines b/c it would mess up the pump. oh yeah anf a holley blue is a pusher not a pump :( so from what i ahve been tould the best thing to get which is going to be the next thing i get is a holley black it is a pusher and a pumper but very $$$$$$.

I had a holley red on my 82 it lastedfor 3 years. The car is long gone but the pump still lives. I'ts all in how its mounted. I have witnessed all kind of wrong ways to mount thoes style of pumps. Then they say g I dont know why I kep burning up these pumps . Horizontally mounted in the factory pump bracket. Upsidedown pump on top motor on bottom. Plus its important to remember these pumps are pushers not pullers. Basically the pump relies on gravity to flow the fuel in and then of course it pushes the fuel down the line.

Having said that make sure that the bottom of the pump is a smidge lower than the gas tank. That way u or any body else knows it has ampel supply of gas and the pump will not burn up. I mounted mine like this on the uni-body frame rail if u will. right be hind the rear axel. Just be sure to ckeck fo clearance especially if your running lowered suspension. maybe that will help or u just had a wack pump.

Well, it wasn't leaking from the lines, but the seam between the motor and the pump. I got a Carter today, hopefully it will last better and be quieter. It's also easier to mount

since it's not 8" tall by 6" wide, lol. The bracket will be on the frame rail in front of the axle, and I will relocate whatever that tiny thing is inline between the pump and the hard line to the front. Looks like some sort of vacuum switch but with no wires? I imagine some 5/16" self tapping bolts should hold it securely enough?,,,,BB

I mean 5/16" threads, not head size. There's also a handy hole right there so I can shoot some undercoat in with a wand type spray head.,,,,BB

Of course my personal theory is that the pressure was too high, and then cranked down to 4psi on the regulator eventually popped a seal. It still runs perfectly fine. It's not burned up, just leaky as hell.

if you have it to spare, go buy yourself a mallory 4070m.

Buzzbomb 04-19-2007 09:06 PM

Curious what 4070 means? That's the model number of the Carter pump I bought?,,,,BD

Looks like this?

Speaking of donks, here's one now, haha. Technically a box though, eh?

OOOOOOH man lol.

the donk in my avatar is there as a joke. theres a video of the one on my avatar doing a burnout, if i was good with photoshop i could turn it into a gif and use that.

i used a mallory 4070m on my gsl-se converted to a holley 600 setup, that thing was a beauty.

the carter should be good, im just a firm believer in "you get what you pay for"

Buzzbomb 04-20-2007 05:55 AM

I thought I got what I paid for with a Holley. Once burned twice shy. I'll go back to factory style after this, lol.,,,,BB
