Hey guys, its me slingo, im over on the rx7club forums also... noticed alot of you guys from here are ex members of there, or are members of both..but anyway...

for those of you who dont know, today i purchased my first 7... a 1985 GS 5 speed https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

its has some issues, as i stated on the other forums..maybe someone over here can help with one of the problems we havent diagnosed yet.

the transmission doesnt even catch, i had to be pushed home (ghetto!) but it got me here...gears wouldnt catch, even going 40 i put it in 4th and it was as though it was in neutral..also the car wont idle (i did locate what looks to be a vacuum nipple that is disconnected but i dont have the haynes manual yet to find out where the other end is.) engine runs good, no smoke, bogs badly if i let it down to below 3k rpms though.. oh..also.. i noticed on the right side bottem their is a canister that has oil on it...havent located the source yet...

Welcome Aboard!

Good luck with the car!

Sounds like a clutch issue also!

Hey Slingo, quick way to check that clutch in the car is to put your foot on the brake pedal[your heel actually], so you're applying the brakes and reach your toes over to the gas pedal and give it some rpms[say about 3000rpm]. If you can, select top gear and slowly release the clutch pedal. [mechanics trick!]If every thing is ok, even with those higher rpms, the engine should stall. Obviously, if it continues to drive, the clutch isn't great. It does sound clutch related anyhow, I'd say a pressure plate problem.

Also, just check your clutch hydrulic system, as I have repaired/replaced countless cylinders on Mazdas, particularly the clutch slave cylinder. They tend to leak and once out of fluid, don't work.

Vacuum leaks can certainly cause idle problems, so yes, if you find a good manual, have a look at all those little bugger hoses!Good luck. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
