About three weeks ago my car died in a parking lot. No electrical, no clicking when i tried to start it but the batt was good. I replaced the fusable links and everything worked fine.

Today i was cruising on the freeway for fun, not racing or anything just having a good time. On the way back home my voltage meter thingy in my dash was running a little high, around 14 and a strange almost buzzing noise was comming from my speakers, very faint but the higher my RPM's got the louder it would get, along with my dash lights getting much brighter. Whenever i would roll the windows up and down my voltage meter would fluctuate wildly and at idle my "stop lamp" light would come on. When my RPM's got hight my seatbelt light would come on for a little while too.

Also when i put my blinker on the green indicator arrow would stay lit and almost a maching gun faint clicking would be heard, I couldn't identify the source of the nosie though. When i pulled up at my friends house to drop him off i decided to stop the car and restart it in hopes that the "restart and reboot" method would work. It wouldn't start, the exact same symtoms as when i blew a fusable link.

Also (yes, more problems) my idle over the past two or so weeks has been around two. even when i'm in first, clutch out car moving the engine doesn't seem to want to drop below 2k RPM's, but the problem fixed itself and i forgot about it. It happend once before but it fixed itself then too...

Help me, i've searched these forums for hours and no one else has faced this problem,

Also, i washed my car today, and because a prevouse owner didn't take care of the car the outter plastic casing of the brake lights is cracked. Maybe some water got in there?

maybe the alt is overcharging?

superfly7236 12-17-2004 12:53 AM

That was my first thought, havn't had time to actualy get under the hood with work but i'm going to look at it tommorow morning.

If it is the alt how exactly do i fix that other than replacing the whole setup?

hey john sell me your car for 10 bucks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

but on a serious note, do you remember when i had the surging idle problem on my se? is it anything like that,?

if the alternators bad you need to replace it

superfly7236 12-20-2004 11:44 PM

Well, everything is fixed. Apparently when i was cruising i blew a fusable link and that isolated my batt from the rest of my electrical system. So my car was running on the alternater only. That explaned the wildly flucting electrical current and why it wouldn't start.

So keep this in mind, keep fuseable links on you.

The one i replaced had been "repared" by electrical tape by a crap ass mechanic at one point.

Much thanks for the advice.

you guys have saved my engine on more than one occasion
