Kill me NOW!!! Ok,the car has new Termostate, changed water pump (not new). I was driving the car and smoke was coming out of the engine bay and my niddle was after the H, I stopped and turned the car off. It had a broken hose, changed it and was on my way, then I stopped to check the engine bay again, it looks like im getting lots of presure in my radiator, put some more antifreeze and it drove fine....I got home parked it and after 3-4 hours I tried to crank it, got lots of presure in my radiator just from cranking. It turn on fine but it overheated!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif Can it be that there is antifreeze inside the engine? Please Help!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Pressure in rad from cranking would seem to me to imply your coolant o-rings are hosed.

My next step would be to do a pressure test of the cooling system, see if it is leaking (my guess would be yes). If so, pull the spark plugs and crank the engine, coolant coming out would mean you would need to pull apart the engine and replace o-rings.

edit: if you do end up doing that, make sure to check the housings for flatness, if the overheating was severe they may be warped.

Ok, how much are the gaskets? where can I get them? I know the car runs fine. You guys think I should replace coolant o-rings or just get another motor?

Gasket set should be about $150 or so? I'd get it from Mazdatrix. No need to get another motor, just pull it apart and replace the o-rings. Just don't do what I did, and look at the apex seals and springs and say "hmm, should be good for a while yet" and then have to repeat the whole process a year later! Check all the seals and replace what is marginal, replace the apex seal springs regardless, they're cheap enough. Get the rebuild video from rotaryaviation.com if you haven't done this before.

edit (again): I should note that if the housings end up being warped, then it might not be a bad idea to get a good used engine. But pull it apart first before you go finding another engine.

You also may need housings, they maybe deteriorated where the oil rings seal.

This usualy happens in high mileage engine with little maintanance with the cooling system.

it sounds like toasted inner coolant o ring... time for rebuild or better yet upgrade to t2 swap https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif
