Hey fellas

Ive been searching for a Right hand drive Rack and pinion coversion that anyone has succesfully done themselves?

Searched for kits and have come up empty handed. All i seem to find is DIY fabrication stories but no actual build threads?

Contacted Respeed about a RHD kit but didnt get far, Billy was heaps of help but said a RHD kit was unachieveable for them.

Ive found threads covering VW rabbit somethings?, jettas, CP racing, RHD mustang racks with the respeed kit, second gen subframe swaps, MR2 racks..... the list goes on.

Has anyone done a Right Hand Drive Rack and Pinion conversion into the first gen? Using cheap, easy to obtain parts, with pleasing results?

Cheers Matt.

Try getting the suspension from the ausrotary web site...

Packaging is a big issue. If you're not big on fabrication, or at least mildly comfortable with it, I doubt you'll be able to do it easily. Your best bet is to do the FC subframe swap and buy the steering parts from somewhere that utilizes RHD. The fact that the first gen steers behind the front axle centerline, and most rack & pinion cars (Miata, FC/FD, Subaru) steer from in front, makes for a bolt-in swap difficult.

I'm not a geometry wizard, though... maybe you could just swap the steering links between the two control arms and front steer it.

That messes up the ackerman unfortunately. We had to go with new steering arms.

That's pretty much what I suspected. Glad somebody that is a geometry wizard chimed in!

So no easy answer then?

I've been wanting to do the same conversion. Will look into the FC subframe swap.

I know its an old thread https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.gif Gave up looking for info on this subject about 6 months ago. Found this thread today while looking for info on an RX8 engine swap into an 1st gen RX7.

I somehow remember my brothers old Scirrocco(Shuh Rock ohh)(VW)had a rear mounted steer rack?? They cars are also similar in width

and size/weight. I wonder if that is a possible solution?? Not that you could find a rack for an 84 Scirrocco, lmao!,,,,BB
