I need some help. I'll start off how my morning was first and you tell me if it's a sign of some kind. I miss my flight at 7:30am this morning to Boston, car ran fine this morning. Had to book another flight for tomorrow. On my way home it started to rain....It's sucks here in florida cause of the black asphalt....gets really slick...so as i'm coming out of the highway I take the curve like I always do......(come into the curve at the down and then exit at the top) Lost it!!!! Did a 180 and stopped facing on coming traffic...No cars around me when this happened!!! phew!!! I cruise home and park the car in the garage. I decide to take out distributor and clean off and dirt and grim that might be in there. Easy enough task!! I align the pins on the distibutor and slide it back in, again simple stuff! Turn the car on to check timing...........nothing, starter is turning and so is motor but won't start. Hmmm....I take out distributos again and insert again....yippy, it starts. I go around the block but the it feels like I lost some power....like secondaries are nothing kicking in. I go back home and open hood, I pull on throttle cable to check if 6 ports a re working correctly...no problem. I take out distributor again and check it over, seems ok. I changed both ignitors just incase.....nothing! I changed Leading coil...nothing! The smell of gas does get stronger as I try to crank it...Is it flooded? Or did I do something wrong with the distributor? I did turn the engine manually while distributor was out....only about half turn......Help!!! I can't think of anything else cause I'm really frustrated. Sorry for the long drag of a story

Ok...so lets see...all you've touched is the distributor and the leading coil...so we'll go for the distributor...make sure you havn't crossed and plug wires...and make sure they are all seated properly...also make sure the distributor has its electrical plugs hooked up

mine did something sorta like this until i removed the rats nest...i'd go for a run to warm the car up...and when i came to a stop it just died...cranked and cranked for about 3 minutes...nothing...but if i got it rolling and put it into first gear it would magically start

As for the secondarys not opening...if you have the stock 4bbl the thing that opens them is a round black vac switch...on the back left of the carb...just has a vac hose that goes in the top...can't miss it...make sure that the hose is connected

I would say since you smell more and more gas that you are obviously getting gas...just no fire :P

My old car used to flood all the time...so i'd carry a bottle of ATF behind the seat just for that occasion...i'd just crop a cap full into each primary on the carb...and varooom...almost always started...and killed every bug for a 5 block radius https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Sounds to me like your distributor may be one or two teeh on the bottom gear off. I'd just try messing around w/ it, give it a tolerance of like 1 tooth in either direction (i wouldnt move it too far).

If your engine floods, the way to unflood it is this:

1) Take off the blue connector pin on the frontmost coil (trailing i THINK, not sure).

2) Crank for 10 seconds, or until it sputters and starts and dies.

3) If you have a friend doing this, you can have them plug it back in before it dies, and it will start up all the way.

4) If you are alone, simply plug the connector back in and start it normally.

hope this helps man!
