I rebuilt about 10 rotaries in my time, so I have done this a few times https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png. But this 1985 RX-7 12A has got me throwing screwdrivers. Got everything apart but this flywheel will not come off, removed the nut of course with a 3/4" Snap on impact, no problem there. But tonite I just broke 2 flywheel pullers... :( Anyone have another way to do this ? Besides a smoke wrench LOL

Yeap, I know how you get it off. You don't need a puller. Spray some Wd-40 or something in the area of the shaft meets the flywheel. Next, get some long narrow punches out and hammer it between the flywheel and the engine. Rotate the flywheel, do this from the side and top with those spaces were a punch will fit. Then hammer it in so its stuck and hammer sideways on the punch. I've done this a few times with it coming off right away, no problem!



Yes, this can cause damage to the rear seal. You really never done this? Its called desperation!

Had an old buddy of mine whoms a mazda mechanic say exactly the same thing as you so I tried it, oh well didnt work. So in anger and about a 6 pack , I hit the fly wheel on the back with a 3 lb hammer, and then turned it 90 degress hit it again, after 3 bangings, it came off.
