Hey guys, now its my turn to ask the swap questions, don't worry though, I know how to use the search function. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The only thing I need a bit of clarification on is about the front cover and oil pan, because we don't have GSL-SE's over here, we don't have a gen 1 13B engine. Can I use my s3 12a front cover and sump?

I searched and found one topic that said no, but I just wanna check. are our 12a's different to yours?

Racer X 06-17-2003 12:08 AM

I hear it works but theres something different about the OMP

j9fd3s 06-17-2003 12:10 AM

you can use your 12a cover, or the best one is a turbo 12a front cover it already has the drain. the oil pan is a sticky wicket though, you could get one from the us (i think they are like $50), try to order the usa number, or make something

I might have to search the ausrotary forum for some answers. =(

Nothings ever easy.

I've got 2 12a's, one blown (I forgot to tell you guys that story) and one good (on my engine stand). I was hoping not to pull apart the good one, but I think thats the best one to use. (I think our s3 was the 12at engine minus the T.)

Whats the deal with the OMP? Should I just forget about it and run premix?

drifter 06-17-2003 01:07 AM

ooh, just found this info thanks to directfreaks list of links ...

Any year 12A front engine cover or 13B GSL-SE if you can

find someone who will part with it witch ever cover you decide

to go with you need to modify it for Turbo oil return.

if using 12A cover you will need to use 12A OMP and run lines to

manifold oil injectors. I ran only the lines going directly into the

rotor housings.

looks like I can do this.

no mention of the sump though.... hmm

Found some more info (thanks geniusracing.com), seems like the US sump is the way to go.

treceb 06-17-2003 07:09 AM

you also need, but not necessary, a 13B front cross member(i think thats the name) its a few mm difference, but i dunno if it makes that much difference.. i just found out i had a 12A one with my 13B...

as far as the oil pan, moroso makes one. i think it fits first gens...

The moroso pan is for the first gens. The 13b is 10mm longer so you will need to slot the holes accordingly. Also you will need to keep your FB dipstick as it is shorter than the T2 and works with the proper pan for the swap.

Yeah, I was reading that.

Apparently the best way to go is either slot the old one or buy one from RB.

Hey Luis, have you tapped your front cover yet for the oil return? Pics?

on the later ones theres a round hole near the metering pump, on a 12at its drilled and tappped for the drain, on the na's its not

On the SE cover the hole area is just below the OMP.I tapped mine and use a 1/2" NPT fitting there.

drifter 06-17-2003 10:11 PM

cool, yeah I found the indentation last night.

I'll have to make a trip to the local hose place https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png and check it all out.

I knew something would come of that post! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Hey, does anyone use a oil sump baffle? I've been looking for the sump and they seem to offer baffles as well, wondering if they are useful/worthwhile??

Mazdatrix has the sump for US$71.50. Which will prolly come to about aus $120 after shipping and stuff, I suppose. Is that about right, or is there some cheaper?
