Hello again,

I have pinpointed a problem...rather...the area it is coming from...its only noticible after I turn my car off.

I have quite a bit of smoke coming off the catalyst that is bolted to my engine...it appears something is dripping onto the guard that is under it...which is hot too I'm guessing because it smokes...

The liquid seems to be coming from behind...from...or next to the air pump...is putting off a white smoke

I don't think it is my radiator fluid...but I do have to add some every week...

If anyone has a idea shoot it my way

I'll be changing out the temp sensor this weekend too...just incase that is it...

later

Hi Falcoln, wooffinn here. Usually a white smoke is related to oil. I'm only taking a guess about the systems being similar between our countries but there should be a feed from the air filter box. Is there any oil in the air filter box? Technically shouldn't be, but with age bypass oil can get in there and in turn be drawn into the air pump.

I only ask as the air pumps[certainally here] have no oil inside them.

As you said, I don't think its coolant, that stuff usually steams on hot surfaces. ???

I checked the cloth hose that goes from the air filter to the catalyst...no oil in it...altho the inside seems to be breaking apart...perhaps I need a new hose

I also checked a rubber hose from the air filter to the air pump...no oil in the hose...but...

I seem to have a lot of oil on one side of my air pump...perhaps its coming from something around there?

That still wouldn't explain why I'm loosing radiator fluid and overheating on occasion tho...

Could this all be part of the thermal sensor on the block?

I have one but you have to take the air filter off to get to the old one

Also...If I took off my air pump...and replaced the catalyst with headers...would it hurt my mileage or incease it?

I have read that the enviro crap recycles some of the unburned gasses into the engine...thats why I'm asking...

Thanks for the help Wooffinn https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Hey Falcoln, wooffinn again. bit of a perplexing problem with that pump. Maybe you could try removing it and retesting the car with it off?[Also gives you the excuse to leave it off!]

Those thermal sensors don't seem to work on a good day. While we didn't get quite as technical emission systems as you guys, the systems I've seen intact just don't seem to do a thing!

The cat and manifold systems on the Rx-7's are quite restrictive and down here on our fuel the normal effective life of the catalyst is around 2 years before it doesn't really do anything about removing the nasty gases from the exhaust so basically you'd probably be polluting anyhow! A usual gain of around 10 to 20% comes from a decent exhaust/header system. Even if you need a catalyst to comply, there are hi-flow units available. I'd just check on that before you spend your dollars!

Technically your mileage should improve as you don't need as much throttle to move and maintain speed, but your new found power may be too tempting, in which case your econony will decrease, but the smile on your face will increase! Just don't expect miracles, rotories and economy don't go together well in the same sentence! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
