Back in Feb. I destroyed my clutch via a nasty 3rd to 2nd down shift. Yea I know pretty dumb, Im more accustom to 2nd gen. Removing the tranny was easy. clutch and pressure plate removed, no problem. The flywheel looks bad lots of heat stress. It appears to be one huge nut in the middle. do I need a special puller. I know it needs to be resurfaced if its still good. Ive seen lightened steel flywheels for but damn there not cheap. You don't need a special puller, if you can get the nut loose (52mm or 2 1/8" socket and a BIG impact wrench), all you do is tap around the edge of the flywheel with a hammer >not hard< but just so the flywheel rings like a bell, it'll pretty much pop right off.

Hey thanks for the info man its greatly appreaciated. I measured the nut and thought it was 2 1/4 but I probably measured wrong. Can I get away with using a breaker bar.

make sure before you try to pop it off with the hammer you put the nut back on a couple threads, you dont want the flywheel falling on you

The problem with having a machinist lighten the stock flywheel is you are going to have him remove metal that is used to dissapate heat. The aftermarket lightened flywheels are made out of different material, it isn't the same metal just less of it. So you start removing a lot of it and you are going to have a lot of extra heat in area where you don't want it.



I wouldn't waste your time or money.
