Right now, I'm looking for an FCS5, but, I was cruising around the Mariah Motorsports site and decided to entertain myself by looking at some FB pics. Even though I've seen them tonnes of times, for some reason, they appealed to me this time, especially with the kit that replaces the rear window with a cool lil thing that sorta reminds me of the back of a Charger or a Stingray, without the slits.

With this new interest, I was looking around trying to find the stock specs of an FB since I know for the most part, the car will remain stock till I can get a job that pays well enough to focus on go fast parts. Haven't had much luck though. I know they'll probably vary from year to year, but any year will do. Anyone able to help me out?

Oh, another thing. Anyone know how easy it'd be to do some sort of rear light conversion with an FB or even an FC?

Much thanks,

~K~

for north america they have 2 different engines:

the 1146cc 12a, that made 100hp @6000rpms and 100lbs/ft @ 4000 rpms, with a 4 barrel carburator

and the 13b 6 port, in the 84-85 gsl-se, it had 135hp @6000rpm and 133lbsft @2750rpms

the 79-80 cars have bigger heavier bumpers, and smaller brakes they wiegh about 2450lbs

the 81-82 cars have the smaller bumpers, the "better" tail lights, they also have optional rear disc brakes(gsl), and a limited slip diff, the 81-82 cars have a lighter flywheel. they wiegh about 2350lbs

for 83, they got lighter rotors and a heavier flywheel, they also moved the oil cooler under the oil filter, it doesn't work as well and leaks a lot too.

84-85, the big news was the gsl-se, which had the 13b engine with 30% more power, larger brakes that were vented all the way around, 14" wheels. all the 84-85 north american models got a better dashboard, better seats and door panels. the gsl-se wieghs about 2500lbs

basically at this point, you are looking for the one with the best body you can find, they made almost no changes to the actual body shell after 1981, stock to stock the gsl-se is the best car mazda made until the miata, but if you are going to modify it a 12a car is a little easier.
