I have stock 84-SE....orderd my RB header, I would like to go straight pipe but my 84-SE has the split air pipe connection. Will going straight pipe cause problems not conntecting the split air pipe? also would my stock muffler be ok to use. I also have a friend w/ a 74 RX4 streetported and went w/ header glasspack then a SE stock muffler and runs pretty good and sounds awsome (not as loud as you think). Would that setup be good to run.

IF you got the RB street header than then I would look at keeping the main cat just to keep cops away from you.As for the rear muffler you can gain a good amount of power by replacing it with a aftermarket one but if you just want a good sound then the stocker sounds good too with a Header.Theres a SE here with 17's on it and a header hooked up to the stock exhaust and it sounds beefy.Mine is louder tho.And sounds meaner. :smirk:

One other ?...can I pull off my smog pump now? or will my cat burn

Racer X 02-10-2003 10:53 PM

If you want to.I don't think it will matter too much.IF you pull the pump you might as well pull the ACV(air control valve)and dissconnect the air pipe to the exhaust. It will cause the car to backfire more tho.I would go all out and pull the cat too. They are big power robbers.

Have you decided on the size of pipe you are going to use? 3inch straight through?

speaking of exhausts, sorry to hijack your thread. but, would there be a noticeable difference running the pipe straight through under the rear axle instead of it taking that big bend??

yes thats better for power, its a little harder to fit though. for na 2.5" is the right size

I will wait for the header to come in and I will pull of the smog pump and get a block off plate for the ACV. I was thinking of the RB straight pipe but, I think I can make one from my welding class, plus it will be cheaper in cost. probably will need to buy the flanges only. size piping, was looking at 2.25 or 2.5. wouldn't 3" be to big?

If you run the pipe under the axle, you would still need to bend the pipe to the muffler. besides if it was under the axle, you would not have that much clearence.

either 2.5 or 2.25 is ok, 2.5 would be better top end
