My "83" has a RacingBeat header,cat,pre-silencer & muffler.About 2 weeks ago,it sounded like a pop can was rattlin' in the cat at low rpm's.The sweet tone of the exhaust went away & it started to sound like a stock system. I brought it to my local mechanic & he took a look inside to find that the cat had "fallen apart" on the inside(a VERY short life)...so he removed the excess debris & off I went, now even a bit louder than before this all happened. My question is; Am I hurting it or is it helping it? I was on the highway last night & it seems to have even more grunt than before...Thanks...love my 7...F1Ernie

It will sound a little louder and it will have a little more power because its lost some restriction from the cat now. About the only thing youre hurting is the o-zone layer because the cat is no longer doing anything. Come emissions time, youre most likely going to need to get a new one, but until then, have fun with your sweet sounding and powerful car https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

yeah, you might need a new one when emission time (if you have it). i've got a rb system that the cat bolts off and a straight tube bolts on. i don't wiry about emissions though. just take the cat all the way off.

I think thats what Im gonna help my friend with his Prelude do. Hes gonna get a DC 4-2-1 header, then a high flow cat with custom flanges welded on so it can be unbolted, then an R&D cat-back system. That way, he can unbolt the highflow cat and bolt in a straight pipe during non-emission times, and only use the cat to pass emissions. It lasts longer that way anyway https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif now that's a wonderful thing, I don't need to take another emission test in this province if the car is over 20 yrs,so I guess it's smooth sailin'.Thanks for your imput. f1ernie

F1Ernie, what province are you in? Ontario?

Yeah, and this just goes to show again, aftermarket cats can't handle the heat of rotary exhaust.. it just eats right through 'em.
