I got an exhaust a while back magnaflow with 2 1/2 inch piping. Since then my car has been backfiring when decelerating, or dropping from rpms higher then 4x. The backfiring has been getting louder and louder, and recently It's started shooting out flames when I let off the gas pedal. whenever I'm gunning it and I let off the pedal blue flames shoot out of my muffler, and when I'm decelerating like when getting off the freeway little puffs of blue flames come out.

Now all of a sudden My exhaust overheat light starts coming on now and then while I'm on the freeway. And my car feels like the cat might be clogged. Is there anyway the cat could be partially clogged??

does it come on well after warm up ?

if so.. most likely the main cat is clogged

if it comes on upon startup..its a faulty sensor..

Sounds like a clogged cat.The backfiring is normal but that light isnt.One way to check is look at the cat after driving on it for awhile.IF its glowing then your cat is clogged.The you might want to look at a Bonez race pipe or a replacement cat.Or straight pipe them like I did.https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I'm pretty sure the cat is a cheep aftermarket the last owner put on to try and pass smog. So I'm going to see if I Can just unbolt it and see what it looks like. If so I'm consider putting a bolt on strait pipe until I have to pass smog again(I live in CA). I know a guy at an exhaust place who said he would make me one for $50.

If I did that How noticeable will it be? Em I going to get pulled over the first time I go around the block?

it not very noticeable if you dont have a cat in the car, only if they look underneath
