Me and my dad, with the supervision of a few neighbors (hah), took out the motor today.
|
The heat shield was a pain, my dad cut his hand on it pretty good...so we decided to take it out.

That is some damn nice exhaust pipe, don't you think?

Up and over.

Yeah.

We spent about 20 mins trying to figure out what was keeping the motor from coming out. We checked every hose and line to make sure they weren't still attached to the motor.
As it turns out, we forgot to take off the shifter. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |
The aftermath. Oops.

What a dinky little motor!
|
Tomorrow I'm going to put on the 12a front cover and figure out the shifter situation.
|
how long did this whole process take?
|
You're doing a Cosmo engine? Cool! Better cool it really well.

I didn't get the sequential turbos because I'm going to buy a T04R for the motor. I got the motor and transmission from Rotary Works, Inc. for $2200 including shipping. |
confused on what you called cosmo, i thought you were getting a cosmo 12a or 13b from a 1st gen, yea i have a REW in my FD obviously, its 215 to the wheels stock with the stock twins in perfect form .. know if i can get my hands on a cosmo 12a heh, i like the turbo
|
They made lots of different motors for the Cosmo series cars...mine's from a JC Cosmo...the same series they put the 20b in as well.
The 13b Cosmo has ports that are twice as large as the REWs. |
Looking at that is like going back in time for me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I hope you didn't bang up the shifter too bad, you're going to need it for the T2 trans.
Good luck and keep up the progress. |
Awesome! It's always nice to have some extra hands to help out.

Glad to see it come out well.Make sure to put the rubber O-ring in when you swap front covers.I have the joy of doing this tommorow with my motor in the car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

this is a task you get better at with experience..
I am to the point that me and one friend of mine can completely remove the entire drivetrain from a 1st gen in about 2 hours.. engine alone is slight over an hour.. last time we removed the engine from a TII it took the 2 of us 2.5 hours... drunk as hell.. maybe not the wisest thing but it was fun.. |
