well, my 84 ran good untill a few days ago, then I went to start it and the entire electrical system "shut down" lights would come on, but nothing else. when i turned the lights off they wouldn't go back down, tried lights on again and nothing. took the key back out and still nothing. 20 min later I looked out and lights were down.

as long as I dont put the key in everything electrical works fine.

did the 84 rx7's have some kind of anti-theft device that could have goofed?

ANY help greatly appreciated before I take it to a\shop and spend a fortune.

thanks,

John

I've heard of similar things happening on early gen 2's. When a short happens in the wiring harness it takes other things with it. It's a little different each time. I hope you find out it's something simple. Good luck.

At the solder points on the switch? that's normal.

If you can see those solder points, though, that

means you need to locate some steering column

covers.

Those steering column covers always go missing. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

I would first be looking at your battery connections and fuse box. Then if everything looks clean and ok, take a look at your ignition column. Check the main clusters that run around the steering shaft and under it, to make sure you haven't knocked anything apart or that all the wires are intact and not burnt out.

No 84 that I know of had an anti-theft device that did that. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif So I'd say its something else. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
