I have a 1980 rx7, the stock ignition is shot and I would like to bypass the complete system. I bought 2 msd 6A's and according to the MSD wiring diagrams it can either be triggered from the original ignition amplifier or the magnetic pickups in the distributor. I've never installed msd before and need some help wiring it up. Does anybody have experience working with msd?

I think if you only have two you will likely only be running them on the trailing ignition, which isnt all that important.

You can run just one to drive the leading and it will be good to go, if you have more than one it would be best if you had 3... one for leading and two for trailing. trailing is mostly to clean up the exhaust and contributes slightly to power... but it doesnt run waste spark so you need one per rotor. The leading however is a waste spark setup so it only needs one for both rotors, and it is the most significant.

I don't have any experience with this though, just speculating based on what I know about the 13b's ignition requirements and configuring direct fire for it with the e6k.

i think you still need to have some sort of ignitior in the system

I know people have run 2 MSD 6a's before, however i know nothign of the sort (so i'm not goign to tell you what to or not to do).

PERSONALLY i'm opting for the DLIDFIS route. Normally i wouldnt, i have NO CLUE how to wire it, but one of my buddies knows how so i'm going to get all the parts and take them to him to have him show me how.

My understanding is that the DLIDFIS does the same thing as the MSD's do, (gives 3 sparks where there used to be 2), and costs as much as 3 coils, as opposed to however much an MSD is.

Like i say, i have no personal experience with MSD, so my opinion counts for nothing :-D

This all sounds fine but I'm not to familiar with ignitions. what is waste spark???? And how would you wire up three msd's? On my left fenderwell I have a box with two igniters attached to it, it is then conected to the two coils and is wired to the magnetic pickups in the distributor. So many wires not enough knowledge.
