i have heard talk about a direct fire system with MSD before. How does that setup go? I have a third MSD coil to work with now, how do i wire it in? in parallel or in series with the other leading coil? I have read the write up on doing it with another ignitor, but how does it work with the MSD 6a? anyone done this and if so what benefits have you seen? any info is appreciated, thanks.

I didn't really like the MSD hooked to two coils.

Since you already have all the parts, the coils are hooked to the orange and black wires in parallel. The MSD magnetic pickup green and purple wires go to the dizzy leading pickup connector. Remove the leading ignitor and store it in a safe place. Hook MSD green to Mazda red. MSD purple to Mazda green.

why do you not like the MSD/2 coil setup?

I found DLIDFIS to work better.

If you want to use an MSD, you should pick up a dual outlet coil that was designed with CDI in mind. MSD and Accel make a coil like this. I forgot what it's called, but if you look around online at their products, it'll turn up.

Mine hasn't seemed to do anything either... maybe slightly worse cold starts actually... I wouldn't bother, unless you have the parts already.

www.mazspeed.com has a step-by-step tutorial... under the "FACTS" section

Go DLISFIS https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Smoother idle and very reliable cold starts. There are other benefits too. Search around for info. If you still need help, we can send some info.

You can check out an old write up I did in '01 for how to hook up DLIDFIS. It's rather general information with no specific 1st gen info (since I hadn't done a 1st gen) but it should get you going. http://www.geocities.com/cd23c/dlidfis.html

I used a 2nd gen coil on my MSD setup, and it works beautifully for me. The thing I notcied most was the improved torque, but I also get better gas mileage, smoother idle, and more rpm (I've hit 10k with my half-bridge). One night my alternator died and I had to drive home on just the battery. My battery voltage dropped down to 8 volts and the headlights were so dim I couldn't tell they were on. The car kept running until I got home. Way cool. If you want to go MSD, by all means do so. If you want to fab up a dlidfs, then go for it. Either way works wonders compared to stock.
