coils are wired to distributor like so...

sen2two 01-06-2008 06:23 PM

1980 body. 83-85 motor and distributer.

that is all i have plugged in at the moment. the original wiring was shot.

do i need to hook up a 12v source to somewhere specific? or a ground? i have the Mazda work shop manual, but did no good. a lot of wires were cut removed. the other wires were changed so the colors are off.

battery ground is good. motor ground is good. cap and rotor look almost new. distributor was pulled from running car.

Both positive sides of the coils need 12+ volts

Both B terminals on the ignitors need 12+ volts

The C terminal on the ignitor goes to the negative side of the coil

Both ignitors get there ground from the distibutor

I think that should to the job

Can't remember off the top of my head wich ignitor went to wich coil....

im new to 1st gens...

to be sure. if i hook up a 12v source (lets say from the alt. for now) to the pos. side on each coil, that would give the B terminal on the ignitor a 12v source right?

and to be sure again, wich terminal is B and wich is the C? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

thanks big time...

got home...

looked at my spare dizzy. it says B and C right on the ignitors. lol, didnt know that.

i did hook up the 12v source strait from the alt.

car sparks!!!! yay!!!!

i think the fuel pump died though. damn it...lol

RE_TurboFB 01-10-2008 08:21 PM

Kick ass!! The new wiring you put in your self is prolly way better then stock... I would rewire the fuel pump also. You could put it on a toggel switch like the pro drifters and racers do..

Plus if you hide the switch its a great antitheift device.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

yeah...i was pretty excited when i seen that first spark! lol

and i already re-wired the fuel pump with a switch yesterday. i do it to most of my cars as an anti-theft. and for flooding rotarys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

im also adding a push button start...might as well.

thanks again for the info.

Do not recommend getting your 12V straight from alternator.

Try 12V source from original 80 distributor wire harness

Run the 12V to one coil then make a jumper wire from the + of one coil to the other. Then run your 12V to the ignitor from the + of coils, Trailing coil to trailing ignitor and leading to leading, then hook up - side of coil to other connector on ignitors still trailing to trailing and leading to leading

i have it ran strait from the alt. cause i completely got rid of the harness all together.

the car is running anyway.

I do beleave If run the ignition componets in seires (like your describing) none of them get the full amount of power resulting in a weak spark.. If you run both the coils and ignitors in parallel then every thing gets the full amount of juice...

If you dont beleave me check it out with a multimeter...
