I've performed the quarter trick on my coolant ports between the intake ports ( use some high heat silicone and 2 quarters to block the passages) Cause I have an after market intake manifold. Any who, my car started idling funny, and smoking white, and I can see coolant bubbling up between the manifold and engine. So what do you guys think about using JB weld to hold the quarters in?



I know you can use 20mm freeze plugs, but I know that the quarters work.

I used the plugs - hasnt leaked at all, and IF I decide to do something different w/ the engine, I can pull them out...

Also, those holes are on the aluminum housing correct? Well, JB Weld expands at a different rate than aluminium - I wanted to use it to fix a brocken therm housing on my E30...

20mm frezze plugs from any autoparts store and use some jbweld. lots of people do it and have no problems.

i have done it take care and make sure they co in nicely not on an angel.

Go and get some freeze plugs and do it right. The serrated edges of a quarter probably don't help it seal too well either. Freeze plugs are smooth on the edges and will give you a better sealing surface. They also cost 1 penny each at Autozone. i tried quarters and they kept leaking. used freeze plugs, and never had to worry about it again.

I don't know why you would need to put Jb weld around them. You should be using either the 1A permatex or Indian head shellac. :-)

Wells I Used Permatex Ultra Copper high heat silicone, and it leaked. So I'm currently trying the JB weld, and it hasn't leaked yet. We'll have to see if it'll last.

Thats the wrong type of sealant. You need a hardening type which is the 1A permatex. :-)
