i had one on my 12a for about 2 days, you can hook dryer hose to the air cleaner and run it to the front bumer.

mike sorry, thats what they say. which is not wrong, just a bad design, IMO. |
lol, when I first bought my 83, my friend and I were discussing ways on how we could rig a cold air intake to it. We were gonna ghetto rig it with the dryer hose to the air cleaner like mike said. The only problem is you should probably take it off when it rains so you have less of a chance of getting water into your engine.
|
If you do it right, then you don't have to worry about water getting into it. I drove mine around all day today in the rain with the dryer hose on and didn't have any problems. Once you put a hose on, the engine really starts sucking stuff up through the opening, like leaves and small animals. Just remember not to go into any deep puddles or drive into any lakes, that'll ruin the engine right quick.

Theres a how-to right here https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
|
the pro seven race cars around here all use some sort of tube to the stock air cleaner, they used to cut holes in it but i guess a cold air feed works better
mike |
is it worth putting one on, increase in hp?
|
You can feel it a little bit, but the best thing is the woosh sound you get. I know that's true for a carbed set up, I don't know about fuel injection.

Here's a couple of mine, just used dryer hose, electrical tape and a disk cutter to make the hole under the overflow resivior. The opening comes out of the "grill."

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif I love that ghetto setup. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif Looks like it works good tho.I was thinking of a cold air setup for my 83 like that sidedraft pic shows.Thats a pimp looking setup there.
|
what did u cut with a disk cutter????
|
I cut out a square under the overflow reservior for the radiator. You can see where the tube goes through the body in my second picture. I called it a disk cutter, but I believe its also called a cut-off wheel or disk grinder. It's hooked up to an air compressor and spins really fast allowing it to cut most things.
|
mine looks the same as that, except i went under the radiator, no cutting
mike |
so does that work pretty good, like is it worth doing?
|
Hey j9fd3s, since you go underneath the radiator, have you had any problems with your air filter getting clogged or getting water into your carb?
|
I dont see why one cant take off the carb bonnet, create a PVC intake that bolts directly onto the top of the carb, and goes straight into the front valence.
It would truly be a ram air, cold air intake for the stock nikki carb. Maybe you want ME to make one to show you all what i'm talkin bout? |
Just don't forget to put an air filter on it! I have to clean mine out about once a week since I put the intake thingy on it. It picks up leaves and feathers and all sorts of crap.
