I got this idea after reading thru the 1st gen faq's...but i didn't like the idea of ripping out the color inserts...just one more reason for the cops to stick me with a ticket...and the circles didn't quite appeal either...but i liked the idea of rotors https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
We'll start out with the new right assembly laying in the back of my car. |

A shot of the back of the car...notice how crappy my old light looks on the left...no wonder i almost get rear ended all the time https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Heres a closeup of that rebuilt assembly...notice i took out the backup light cover...since I have rather poor night vision

Last picture...which didn't turn out all that well...but you can see how bright the thing is in the dark...seems like it all turned out rather well...I didn't break too many pieces of the light assemblys...and it all went back together...looks pretty nifty too...what more could i ask for? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

First i had to pry the light assemblys apart...not really much fun...but since they're held together with 20 year old super glue its not too hard...then you gotta get the lense inserts out...they've got a tab on top and bottom that aren't too hard to get out...just takes a standard screwdriver or a knife...as for the rotors on the lense i made a stencil...printed it out on card stock...then i put alluminum tape over it...and left enough on the edges so i could stick it to the smooth side on the lenses
A hobby knife really comes in handy for this stuff...aaaand...some alcohol incase you overspray...put that stuff on a q-tip and the paint will come right off...with a little elbow grease https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I've made up a little picture here showing some of the "steps" 1. The light housing disasembled and cleaned 2. The paper rotor cutout 3. Rotor cutout with alluminum tape on it 4. Alluminum tape trimmed 5. Ready for painting I didn't really feel like making 2 stencils...so I took some paper towels and wrapped them over the half of the assembly i didn't want to paint yet...then let it dry...switched the stencil and covered the part i already painted with some more paper towels...its not too hard to do...then you slap the thing back together and seal it up...I used about half a tube of adhesive calk making sure it wouldn't leak dirt in again https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
That's kinda neat!
|
cool im gonna do that! hehehe https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

You should make a few sets and sell 'em on ebay. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png It doesn't seem like it took you too long to make them either, so the pay back should be nice https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png at least enough money to buy you some beer..hehehe
|
lol...thats if I could find any assemblys without huge cracks or holes...I just got lucky on those two...the car I got them from had a blown engine and an almost perfect body...so gobs-a-goodies https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
