Was wanting to know what all can i loose on my 84 rx07, when i put on a header and exhaust. Do you loose the converter ? and do you loose the air pump and other parts on the engine? If anyone can help let me know

Viperx7 03-16-2003 09:00 PM

Installing a header will get rid of the exhaust manifold and cats. You'll need to get either a pre-silencer or a straight pipe to for where the cats were. Racing Beat and Mazdatrix sell some pretty good setups. You can also lose the air pump. If you still have the exhaust manifold heat shield and preheater pipe, toss them. With all that heavy exhaust gone, the difference will surprise you. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Yeah, its a mod you can really feel when you gas it after the install. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683827.gif

I'm thinking of building a "Tubular Exhaust" Manifold. Not exactly a Header,

but at least a 15lb weight difference over the cast iron pig of a manifold.

maybe it will flow better?? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Racer X 03-16-2003 10:03 PM

It better flow better.Mazda did a shitty job building the stock manifold.Anything with actual pipes off a flange beats it.

ioTus 03-17-2003 02:29 PM

Smog FIghter, you probably already know this, but if you build your own MAKE SURE that both pipes connect after the exact same distance! You dont want one primary to be longer than the other.

Smog Fighter 03-17-2003 08:37 PM

Yeah, the =length thing, I should have enough room.

straight back with the front and around and back with the rear...

ioTus 03-17-2003 11:43 PM

Yup thats pretty much how my racing beat setup is.

Racer X 03-18-2003 01:17 AM

Might as well make the headers primaries go under the car to the rear heat shield the merge them there and make a over axel setup to bolt to it.The longer the primaries the better gains you'll have.My RB street header is nice but it could be longer. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Smog Fighter 03-18-2003 08:15 PM

Maybe I can get an exemption with a split exhaust. 2 tubes 2 cats then 1 tube over axle

and into a muffler.

Thats looks like a killer setup. Why would you need an exception?? Is it a local law thing?

j9fd3s 03-18-2003 10:07 PM

hmm those little presilencers look like cats, i wonder if 2 cats would work?

mike

drifter 03-18-2003 10:09 PM

I know this usually always starts some kind of debate, but don't cats impede the flow? therefore 2 cats would be even worse?? or if theres two pipes, one per pipe is it less constrictive than 2 pipes into 1 pipe? I'm thinking the latter, though I could be wrong... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

i think the latter too although i'm not sure either. here in the peoples republic of california they want us to pass smog

mike

Racer X 03-18-2003 10:40 PM

Yeah, theres smog police in north america(none here thank god). You Aussie FB owners have it easier than those guys in the states. But I have the limitless restrictions too.https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Hey Mike, that's "The Socialist Peoples Republik of Kalifornia", get it right! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Since I smog all my own cars I could pretty much do anything I want, but I have never liked the

"do as I say, not as I do" theory of living. So I try to find ways of keeping it "legal" while still

getting as much out of it as possible.

Hence the "exemption". If I run the 2 side by side instead of the 3 inline cats (Yes 3) I would

need to.... Aw F**K IT Gimme a torch! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683517.gif

I would rather run three cats than four myself. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

yeah and the cats are the only impediment to power

I have the full Racing Beat street port setup, w/ dual long primaries collecting at the overaxle. I love it to death, and it sounds superb!!

No emissions testing here, thank god!

Smog Fighter 03-20-2003 12:30 AM

that setup is from that Japanese site. I know they have emissions testing there too. So it would work,

it's just that if I saw it roll into my shop, I would laugh very hard https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif and tell the guy to return it

back to stock or produce a C.A.R.B. lable for it before it would pass a visual test.
