so we were playing with the 83 and it wont run under 2000 rpms, unless you spray carb cleaner into the carb. we have baypassed the vacuum rail, and most everything except the acv. we put another carb on it and got the same symptoms.

mechanic a wants to put a 3rd carb on it, he says it doesnt meter fuel at low speed (under 2k)

mechanic b says we have 2 carbs that behave exactly the same, we should look at something else. the intake gasket, and stuff on the intake manifold are about the only things left.

i'm with b

Is that the carb with 2 Idle screws or 1?

I am assuming that you are dealing with a NIKKI.

have you checked power to your fuel cut solenoid? It only affects the Idle circuits

in the carb. Main metering bypasses the fuel cut circuit by using the main jets.

I hope this helps?

its got one idle air bleed screw. i have not checked the fuel cut solenoid, thats the one that basically opens the return line? or does it do more?

have you tried the carb spray around the intake manifold and gasket areas

in question instead of in the carb intself?

yes, but it could be leaking one the bottom of the intake, or internally or maybe i missed it. thats mechanic b's next step is to do the intake gasket, and have a look at everything attached to the manifold

i cant believe the guru is puzzled, I think its a case of reassuring yourself

isnt it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

thats the one under the fuel lines when they come into the carb? i can hear it click when i unplug it, i also tested it like the book says and it seems to pass. by blowing into it

Thats a tough one you have there mike.I say wait and see if the gasket solves it.Some times a leak is all these cars need to give you a headache.Keep us posted.

j9fd3s 02-19-2003 12:32 AM

yah i just pressurized the intake and it doesnt even try to hold pressure so looks like intake gasket time

mike

Racer X 02-19-2003 12:50 AM

Let us know if that works or not.

Hereonout 02-19-2003 12:59 AM

how much is it where u are, cheapest i can find is around $10.

j9fd3s 02-19-2003 10:44 AM

i dunno i have one laying around

My bad on those solenoids, I didn't research them. I thought the coasting richer

solenoid was a anti- dieseling valve. (cuts idle fuel circuit when key is off)

are these carbs reman(s) or "Just laying around"? it might be wise to remove the Idle mix screw and blow compressed air through it before removal. Then try for idle.

If not, then I guess it's gaske time.

one was the original, the "new" one had been sitting around for a long time. we pulled the one one apart and the idle circuit works

Do you hear that? .........

That's the sound of my mind ....

Yes, it's empty. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/blackeye.gif Sorry for not being able to help.

And I call myself a "Driveabilty Expert". ****, I hang my head in shame. :-(

Damn mike that thing is still messed on it?thats wierd with a new carb on it it should solve the problems unless you have a gasket leak or low compression in one rotor.keep is posted.

Is the new gasket in it?Did it make a difference?Whats the fuel pressure like?
