I have a 82 GSL and I want to get it as low as I can for as cheap as I can! Is cutting the stock springs the way to go? My shocks are pretty new. Any suggestions, Id like to get it an inch lower and Id be happy. Carl

psyclo 05-02-2004 01:06 AM

absoulte cheapest way to go is cut the springs. by no means anywhere near a good way to do it but if cheap is all your looking thats it.

defprun 05-02-2004 12:16 PM

MAZDATRIX RACING SUSPENSION, ITS IN THE RACING SECTION OF THE RX7 SITE.

camocarl 05-02-2004 12:23 PM

Trying not to spend an arm and a leg for mazdatrix stuff. They sure are proud of their stuff.

defprun 05-02-2004 12:45 PM

Than cut the springs and ducttape couch cousiones underneath the car.

psyclo 05-02-2004 01:08 PM

rofl, he has a point, cuting the springs works but is a horribly bad way to do things.

Dysfnctnl85 05-02-2004 06:23 PM

The Eibach Pro Kit springs are really cheap. $200 is cheap for springs, IMO.

It's what I have on my car.

83turbo 05-02-2004 08:04 PM

If you're mechanically inclined and really want it low, look into

the Racing Beat strut tower extension kit. Lots of work but really

slams the car (at the front anyway). Just watch out for ball joint

to wheel/tire clearance (it's tight). Excellent handling improvement.

RotaryXSevn 05-02-2004 09:24 PM

yeah dont cut, the best way is to get some springs or get the groundcontrol coilovers.

camocarl 05-02-2004 10:28 PM

Looks like the best way to go is just buy some performance springs.

racerxtreme7 05-02-2004 10:31 PM

hahaha have fun driving with cut springs

camocarl 05-02-2004 10:33 PM

Now im looking for some new transmission mounts, the rubber part. They are worn slam out, any sources?

FCmaniac 05-03-2004 09:59 AM

If you can, don't cut them. The spring rates will be screwed and the car will bottom. When it bottoms, its dangerous, things are stressed and start breaking. The struts will be gone in no time. It will cost you more in the long run to drive around on cut springs.

why i sure did, and lots of it too...botoming out wasnt fun though. but it didnt happen that often.

camocarl 05-03-2004 08:32 PM

Now looking for lowering springs. Anyone got any for sale under 200. Carl

FrankenChuck 05-05-2004 09:18 AM

For springs, i would check with

www.shox.com

they always seem to have the best prices.. I installed a set of Suspension techniques springs on another 1982 GSL-- and the tires started rubbing...

For different trans and engine mounts go here...

http://www.vintagerotaries.com/FORUM...opic.php?t=604

I have a set of these engine mounts for my RX-3.. and when i figure out how i am going to mount my trans i may end up needing his trans mount too.

blown 83 05-05-2004 09:19 AM

I am running the Suspension Techniques springs. They drop the car 1". I like the ride of the Eiback springs better, but not enough of a difference to pay the increased cost. Nopi usually sells the springs for something like $175.

...or follow the link and purchase them from here....

scroll down to the bottom of the 1st page. The price is a grunt higher, but you are supporting the community. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

i always wanted to try and get some of our aussie buddies to talk about king springs. they have 3 different height progressive springs(including stock replacements, last time i checked) for FBs.

camocarl 05-05-2004 03:23 PM

Thanks Chuck. Ill have to pick up those springs. Chuck has seen my car! Carl

camocarl 05-05-2004 03:30 PM

how low do people actually go ??? my FB is stock height i believe right ? i mean **** i dont think you need to lower it all at.. check out my pic and tell me if this is stock ride height ... im not really sure i bought her like this so https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

camocarl 05-05-2004 09:01 PM

Yours looks stock height. Ive seen FB's about 1 inch off the ground, you can get them that low if you have time and lots of money. It all depends on your preference, proper lowering can add performance and handling, and it makes it look so much better. Kind of like whatever floats your boat.! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

nopistons94 05-05-2004 09:13 PM

hah ,well that cool i guess but everyone asks me if my car is lowered, my rear is kinda high but my front is pretty low ..

blown 83 05-05-2004 10:22 PM

Check out my post from the other day. My RX7 is beside my wife's Volvo V70 AWD for a good comparison. Hope this helps.

Where is this post man? Is it in the first gen section?

camocarl 05-05-2004 10:30 PM

Nevermind, found it. I just dont know if I want to invest in the springs when my car's springs may be so worn out that it already is lowered 1 inch!! It would never hurt to get new ones though. Ill post a pic. Im running 14's.

heres what mines looked like... the roads where i live suck, so there was some bottoming once in a while.

camocarl 05-06-2004 03:01 PM

Yeah that has def. been lowered. Check to see what color the springs are, Id like to know . Looks good.

nopistons94 05-06-2004 04:57 PM

i woudlnt mind my rear being a little lower, however my front is done enough for me, yours is a little to low but still cool https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
