Hey guys new here.



Ive had my 85 FB for a couple months now.



I just discovered that my axle is leaking between the housing and third member.



How much is this going to cost to fix? And if possible can I fi it myself?

I'm having a hard time picturing the spot, but you should be able to fix it yourself.

If you go to that link, you have the carrier / third member, which is the ribbed part that holds the gears.



Then you have the housing, that holds the axles.



Where they bolt together, between 12 and 3 o'clock its leaking.



All I know my car wreaks of diff fluid from it leaking.

**** i thought they were welded from the tube to the carrier. I know the axles are bolted into the tube, but i didn't know the tube was bolted to the carrier.

Yup. Its a wonderful thing.



And my clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, well one of the three, went out today.



So no shifting gears period.



And I almost over heated it trying to get to work.

some times can be an easy fix. one clean the rear end with degreaser. tighten the bolts that attach the third member to the housing. alot of times they just work themselfs loose. U can also take silicone around where the 3rd member meets the housing, not realy the right way to fix it but will stop the leak. fix the leak because u will burn up your diff. the right way is to remove the 3rd member clean mating surface use good silicone and torque the bolts evenly





your clutch issue could be the clutch master or slave. the slave is on top of the trans look for leaks, or fluid. its cheap and easy fix. the master is against the fire wall next to the brake booster master cylinder. does it feel like the pedal have pressure?



buy some tools suck it up dive in head first you will get a great sence of accompleshment. go to carquest for parts there usually the cheapest.

dont let you car overheat! Your thremostat could be stuck, low coolant, or your rad could be full of ****. DO NOT RUN straight water! the aluminum will rott and water can go where its not supposed to.
