I've been searching for a few days now thru this forum, and i seem to have terrible luck finding what i want.



I want to put in the rear axle from a GSL-SE into my 85' GS and i also want to use the 4 x 4.5 bolt pattern because i will be buying new wheels anyway. Supposedly the axle is bolt on if you have the driveshaft from the -SE. What parts/modifications will i need to convert the front hubs to use the 4 x 4.5 bolt pattern and also for the rear.



Also....i've heard that you can fit 17 inch wheels w/o modification to the suspension or fenders if you can find the correct offset. What was the stock offset for these cars, and how wide are the wheels? Im pretty sure the stock tire size is 185/70-R13 and i was considering going with some 225/35-R17 sizes or mabe 205/45-R16, if i had to go with 16's. Im not concerned w/ ride quality and want the looks and the cornering advantage of this. 1 last thing is what is the widest wheed width i can use?



a little off topic, i have some original 13 inch aluminum wheels for my RX7 that i won't be needing after i buy new wheels. I was thinking of glass beading these rims to make them look alot nicer....possibly polish and wax them...and sell them.......are they worth anything and is there a demand for these wheels?

Not too sure about the 17's, considering Im at 40 offsett with 16x7 (2inch drop springs also) and the rim lip is scary close to the strut spring perch ( it would be the same distance with or without the drop though). Perhaps more offsett, but Im presently running 205/45/16 up front and they rub a bit on the fender lips on a good dip. Rear tires are 225/40/16 and have no problems at all. As far as ride quality, it rides like im on bare rims with 40's, I couldnt bare it with 17's and 30's, it already feels like the car is falling apart. Just my 2 cents.



As far as the diff swap its a complete bolt on your 85, driveshaft will work from your GS on the GSL-SE rear. Its easier to swap the whole diff. Ive done plenty of these and presently drive a 79 with all GSL-SE corners. For the front your easiest way would be to disconnect your brake line, then the four 14mm bolts on the top of the strut (under the hood) and the 2 17mm bolts that hold the strut assembly to the balljoint, pull it out as a unit and swap with the GSL-SE unit.
