Just wondering if anyone has tried the Racing Beat engine torque brace on a first gen? Was It a noticable difference, worth the 70 bucks for the pieces?

I know that I have read past Threads on this subject.

Been thinking about doing the same thing.

Only benifit that I can see from installing the Brace is less Clutch Chatter as per RB write up and not as much lift from the right side of the engine.

Other than that I'm still debateing on if it's worth it or not.

Modified=Yes

Stock=Not worth the $$$$.

First off it was a pain to install, I've done motor and suspension swaps that seem to take less time.

the holes that mount to the tranny did not fit and I had to redrill the holes 4 times

till I got it to fit right, there is not alot of room in there (GSL-SE) so it would of been easier

to remove the upper plenum. the fender portion was pretty easy as was the rest of it.

I did notice a new noise/harmonic coming from the upper left side of the dash

where the engine noise/vibration comes thru from the mounting point in the

engine bay, but no longer notice it, as I have gotten use to it. its not loud or annyoing

but you will notice it at first. nice to have the shifter/tranny stay in place under hard

use and abuse.

Is it worth it? I think so, I could make one cheaper now that I see how it is done.

someday I will make one for my other 7, but the thought of pulling this one to use

as a template would be no fun until I yank the motor this winter......

I made my own because it was different application, but it was easy and only cost about $20 for all the hardware. If you want to make it a little more "civilized" you could add urathane bushings at one end to absorbe some of the vibration. Others have made ther own, like boosted12a for his 1st gen. I think his mounts to his home-made strut brace and is very stout.

I went to a few car club meetings this weekend and managed to spy a fc with an engine brace only he did something rather weird...



the bar that connected his engine to the fender was a shock....



He said it had no vibration normally associated with engine braces and he said he noticed a difference off the line from a complete stop...



anyone else ever tried this?

What would be the point in "bracing" it if it moves?
