i was planning on removing my antenna because i've heard if u hook it up to the frame you'll get better reception an that way cover up holes on the body....so what im askin is would this be an easy thing to do if so where would i connect the antenna wire to properly ground it?

I'd like to know that too, my antenna broke off long ago and perhaps it would be better to ground it then buy a cheap go-kart like rubber replacement.

Bump.

I took mine off and relocated a smaller, different style one in the center of the roof just above the rear hatch glass. I think it looks pretty good, and it gets way better reception...though I don't know if it's the new antenna or the location.

what did you do about the hole?

1gendreemer 04-19-2004 04:53 PM

Filled it with bondo! I just dremelled out the hole in the roof to fit the new antennae. Once you take the headliner out, you can hit the spot where you want to drill from the inside with a punch...and the metal is pretty thin so it's nothing to go through it and fit it up. Primer the rough edges and paint...if your careful and keep the hole small, the base of the antenna will cover up the work.

what IS bondo???

1gendreemer 04-20-2004 06:47 PM

???? um...Bondo is the brand name for fiberglass body putty/filler. Go to any parts store and ask for bondo...they'll know.

is that rear surround symetrical, or can you tell there used to be an antenna on one side and not the other?

1gendreemer 04-20-2004 08:12 PM

As long as you do a good job on the bodywork, you can't tell. There are no body contours or lines that show that there was an antenna there, just a flat hole that you have to fill.

I plan on covering up the antenna hole as well...along with my ******* door-handles.
