So since my last post, I got the engine mounted up to the tranny, put the starter back in, hooked up my heater/coolant lines, etc, installed the accessories back on, fixed my f'd up exhaust stud and got the carb in.



It didn't go so smoothly as it sounds though... Racing Beat sent me the wrong header system (I've got a lot of wrong parts from them the last few orders, but its ok - i still love them)... so I went ahead and threw a stock mani on.



The RB Bridgeport holley manifold doesn't allow the use of the stock bolts.. the heads are too thick. I used some rigged bolts on the last engine with this setup, but I'm going to pick up some slim headed hex bolts to use instead, so that's on hold. I will also be picking up a new thermostat, etc.



Also, when putting the PS back on, apparently the line cracked because the next morning there was a nice puddle of PS fluid on the new concrete - not cool.. so i guess I'll need to replace that too.



Everything else is going good. This weekend I plan to get the intake bolts I need, bleed the clutch line, get a new thermostat, install radiator and fan and do something about the PS line. I dont know if i'll be able to replace that this weekend or not.



If all goes well, I should be tossing a battery in and cranking it over.



HOWEVER, i do still have a dead fuel pump issue to address. I have an extra holley blue pump, but they are 50/50 most the time, so I may have to wait til later this month and get a nicer pump.

BTW - I have $800 in the project right now - should be less than $1500 when all is said and done. The BP engine setup may put me up to $2k, but I figure if I build a 175whp or more 12A BP for less than $2500 - I'm happy. The biggest expense is in the rebuild parts and flywheel, lol.

In my humble opinion the Holley blue is junk. Extremely noisy, and mine began leaking between the motor and pump after three months of driving. I've since installed a Carter 8070, which cost about half or maybe less, than the Holley. I can barely hear it after the engine is running, and reliability is so far so good. It's also smaller, which on these cars is very good. I have mine run through the old Holley FPR set to about 4 pounds, and it's only ever flooded on me once. That was also with the blue pump, not the Carter. I mounted it vertically on the back wall of the storage bin in between the axle and body. Plenty of room with right angle fittings, and no twisted hoses. The hard line had to be cut down and replaced with flexible line so the bracket could be used. I am really happy with the setup so far, and can be turned up ala the FPR if I ever need it.

I had a different "aftermarket" pump on my 84 car - but cant recall what it was. It was only $20 from my buddy who manages a parts store - he uses the same pump on his 383 stroked s10 drag truck - holds up to 8psi if needed. I will be running mine through the holley fpr as well set to 4lbs for now. Is your engine ported?



I have a family reunion this weekend, so I wont get to play much - but i'll check out that carter you speak of!

QUICKIE UPDATE THAT I FORGOT...







SHE RUNS NOW https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif off spray though since the fuel pump is dead... once i replace the pump, it should run fine. It fired upthe first crank! Once the pump goes in I'll probably need to retune the carb some - but thats it. I'll throw the RB headers, center section and muffler on it and be done for now.



I have tokico rear shocks to swap onto it as well - but the rest will be small upgrades while I build the BP engine - brakes, brake lines, front shocks and springs, misc interior parts and a 4pt autopower rollbar for the hill climb event in september... after that, some paint and she's done... gotta keep my eye on the prize.... 525whp FC project
