OK, my 85 12A GSL with 95k on it won't start all of a sudden, it has been about -15 to -20 F in SD, and my little baby started last night just fine and ran good too, then this morning my key wouldn't turn past the lock position. So I got a ride and thought i would turn the key when it gets warmer so it wasn't as frozen. It wasn't stuck later and it just wouldn't turn over. I used the choke properly and used starting fluid and got a jump. It's not the ignition system and I'm getting compression. It makes this weird sound and just doesn't turn over. I hear a grinding-like noise near the back of the engine and it sounds louder on the inside when the car is trying to turn over. It could be possible that i got water in my gas line because i lost my gas cap and used socks for a week while another was on order. I hit the car wash twice and when i pulled the socks out today to put the gas cap in, they were frozen so i put some gas line anti-freeze in. Somebody plz help me, i got a clutch kit commin tommorow and i don't kno what 2 do!!!!

It could be that your gas has water in it, which might had goten frozen in the line and could casue the car not to start cause there is no gas getting into the car.

I've heard from the local RX-7 club that its a bad idea to run a rotary if the engine temperature is below 20 degrees. I know the new LS1's you cant start when it's too cold because of the aluminum block, so it would make sense, but who knows?

Anyways, have you checked the fuel bowl windows, to make sure their filling up and theres no ice in there? And are you sure your getting spark? the distributor rotor can contract and not work properly in cold weather, though unlikley. And have you checked the plugs to see if their wet? Just ideas....

I'll check that but what is the sound i hear when i crank it. It sounds like something is grinding. And when i stop the engine keeps on going for a second like shoes in a dryer tumbling after it has stopped. The clutch will be here soon and i have to get this thing running like it was yesterday. If there is ice in the line, how can i get it fixed and working again? Thanx 2 anybody that helps me.

I live in central BC way up north. When It use to hit -25 I would unplug the car and dump half a liter of gas down the carb to start it with. Then wait till the guage starts to read some sort of tempature before letting off the gas.I used to hold it at 2000rpm on those days. The old 12a never let me down till the day I pulled it.

Just got the new clutch a few minutes ago, good kit purchased from eClutchmaster.com

I can't get it installed until my car is running again!!! I think i'm gonna tow it to my mechanic's shop and have it warm up in his garage. Anybody got any info on towing? I hope that solves the problem!
