84 RX7, 12A motor

I hope this isn't a repeat, my last post didn't show up.
I'm posting this for my son.
He recently picked up an 84 RX7, been sitting for years.
He replaced the distributor, cleaned the fuel pump, flushed the lines etc.
He hit the starter, the engine fired, ran for about 30 seconds and died. Since then he has spark but the engine wont fire.
I suggested he go through the carb, sticky float, clogged jets, all the usual suspects.
Do these engines have an oil pressure shut off switch, shuts the engine down if the oil pressure isn't high enough.
I don't know anything about rotary engines other than they were invented by Felix Wankel.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated
My thanks in advance

Typical of rotaries that have been out of service for long periods, is that varnish and rust can form on the iron faces. The engine may seal long enough for one start. Then when the side seals and apex seals are forced deep into their slots will not return to track and seal against the surfaces and thuis, no compression. Usually requires a teardown and cleaning. You might try auto trans fluid poured into the small holes in the carb. One cup for each housing. Let it sit for a week. Then rotate the engine one revolution and repeat. For three weeks.
Then check the compression. If you have 140 pounds or more it will run. Other wise a rebuild.
There are no valves in a rotary, so the engine is open to the air through both the intake and exhaust. Plug the exhaust with a rag when not in service. Keep the air cleaner installed with a filter in place. Lynn E. Hanover
