I jut got a new 83 Rx7. There were a few problems with it in the start, I had to replace the gas tank and fuel pump. I got them both from a junk yard, so they should be working. Anyway, the problem is that when I go to start the car, I have to keep the pedal floored, and keep it floored just for it to stay alive. I can see gas going through the nozzles and all the spark plugs are working. My tach doesn't work, but I would say it's not idling higher than 1000rpms, and thats with the gas floored. So obviously I can't try driving it, but does anyone have any suggestions as to where to start looking? Engine has compression, but I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to see how much PSI is coming through.

I also tried pouring gas straight through the carb to see if it was a gas problem and the car would die.

HELP ME!!!

No tach signal means your trailing ignitor is shot most likely. Run the motor and check for spark.

Also the motor wont run on raw fuel alone, and check your coasting valve (under the carb on the driver side you will see a vac solenoid and a big rubber hose). Check to see that your coasting valve is not stuck shut. Good luck

Alright, so I took apart the carburetor to clean it out and found it was missing a jet and had one that was the wrong size...so I got it started and it revs, now I can't get it too idle, I have to keep my foot on the gas a little. With the choke all the way out it idles around 2200rpms. If anyone can think of another place to point me I'll check it out.

Thanks for all the help guys.

PM Rx7Carl on here and ask him what he thinks about it, it may be fixed with an adjustment of the idle screw on the carb but I wouldnt recommend doing it untill you talked to someone familiar with Nikis.
