Ok, here is the deal. By the end of this summer I will have at least 6k hopefully closer to 8 or 9k to play with. I want to buy a house, but I'm still in school, and my dad says if I move out he is not helping pay for college. So, if I can't have my own house then I need something else to rob me of my time and money, so I'll prolly end up getting a car.
My plan is to buy a decent gsl or gsl-se for less than 2k and strip it basically down to nothing. I have a friend who is going to do all the painting for me, we are gonna do it right and paint everything. The other benefits I see to stripping it down is 1.I will learn a lot about my car and 2.I will know what needs to be replaced, and what will need to be replaced shortly and address those issues. Beyond the tear down and replacement stuff I want to do a turbo conversion (engine, trans, rear end) and ideally would like to have it set up so I can fairly easily add nitrous later. My question is, if I am doing most to all of the work myself, would it be possible for me to make a reliable 400hp turbo FB for ~6k or am I being completely unreasonable? Thanks, Jeremy |
why dont u get a and rent it out?
lets see... 2k for car. 2k for engine. 2k for standalone and some supporting upgrades. umm prolly not. ask setzep, iotus, Dysfnctnl85 and directfreak how much theyve spent so far.... |
i'm at about $2,700 so far, and i'm guessing anywhere from 250-300 flywheel horespower, 200-240 rear wheel horsepower.

Here's my break-down so far:
Car + trailer rental: $1500 13b Cosmo + S4 TII transmission: $2200 GSL-SE LSD: $245 GSL-SE Oil Cooler: $109 Eibach Pro-Kit Springs + Tokico Shocks: $479.97 TII Coils: $35 FUBAR'D NPR Intercooler: $170 (probably will never get my money back) Brand new NPR Intercooler: $246.89 Walbro Fuel Pump: $140 S4 TII Flywheel + pressure plate (that I couldn't use): $49 Custom 6-puck Clutch: $230 ACT StreetLite Flywheel: $240 Current Grand Total: $5644.86 I'm still waiting to order the T04R, the Haltech, BOV/WG, and the materials to make the manifold, exhaust, dp, all that jazz. Final answer: only if you skimp on parts or get them hot, you can't do the Cosmo + big single conversion for under $6K. Maybe a TII swap with the stock turbo... |
I think you could easily get 400hp from it and stay under 6k. I'd go with a weber 48 or 51 carb, T04B, and full 3" exhaust. Rebuild and streetport the engine. I'd even use a 12a engine, just cuz I like 'em https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I say invest the money. If you don't NEED the car and you've got thousands in extra cash, put it into a real estate mutual fund and let it grow. Anything you sink into a car, you never get back.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif I did my swap for 2100......I wish i had an extra 6,000 or so to play with. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png
The 7 will never be finished no matter how much money you invest into it.....there is always more to add!!!!!! |
How the hell did you get the whole swap done for 2100?
|
Dysfnctnl85 why did you use a 13b re instead of the rew? I mean I know the stock port size is bigger, but if your gonna port the engine anyway is their any other advantage to the re?
Thanks |
