It's an '83 with 168K miles, 5spd, GU or GS maybe? Can't remember now, crap! Just thought it would be cool to have one for me and my dad to mess around with.

Can someone with superior RX7 knowledge tell me a little somethin about these cars?

Have a look at the first gen sites sticky for loads of links that might help you out.

And I think you mean GS.

And yes, they are cool. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

manntis 02-09-2003 10:30 PM

a GS for $2,000? It's in mint condition, I assume...

It better be mint for that price.

Dysfnctnl85 02-10-2003 11:02 AM

Definitely not mint, I know it's not worth $2K.

Maybe $500?

well i bought an 83 that needs paint, a carb, tires, dash, and seats for $350.

Dysfnctnl85 02-10-2003 01:18 PM

Dude, it definitely needs paint. What the hell is this guy thinking? Well, I guess just like anyone else who's trying to sell something.

I guess I'll have to talk to my dad about this.

Is there any other difference b/t the 12A and 13b besides being carb'd?

How easy is it to slide a 13b in there?

j9fd3s 02-10-2003 01:42 PM

12a-13b you need that and an oil pan, to go 13b

mike

Dysfnctnl85 02-10-2003 04:20 PM

No electronic mods? That seems rather simple then. Thanks for the info.

Its really simple if you go with a aftermarket carb.I know this from experience.I want to sell this carb setup and try something different tho.Knowone up here will buy it tho because in the lower mainland of BC you need to pass emissions.Damn I want to sell it.Then maybe buy a holley setup.

Racer X 02-10-2003 09:37 PM

If you need any info on the 13b swap let us know I can help you out on that.Looks alot cleaner in the bay and easier to work with too.

Depends on they year of the 13b.Heres what you need.....

SE oil pan and pick up tube,SE front cover and RB mount or SE mount and crossmember. Then pull the EFI off and get some Block offs from racing beat and run a 6-port carb setup. Then enjoy. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Dysfnctnl85 02-11-2003 11:16 AM

Wait, so why isn't it fuel injected, why carb'd?

j9fd3s 02-11-2003 11:52 AM

carbs are simpler, you could do the efi, but its a lot of wiring

mike

Dysfnctnl85 02-11-2003 03:21 PM

Are they're any advantages/disadvantages of turbocharging a FI vs Carbuerated engine, and did you swap in the 13B-REW or 13B-RE?

This is hypothetical, but it's definitely something I would like to do, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

j9fd3s 02-11-2003 04:25 PM

well on an na the amount of power you want is dictated by the rpms you need to spin the engine to. stock ports will make peak power at about 6500rpms, and a 12a will make about 150hp (assuming free intake and exhaust), a bridge port will peak about 8500-9000rpms and make about 250hp. they both will make about the same amount of torque, 120-150lbsft. the turbo can give you 250hp and 200lbsft with stock ports, and driveablity, although it is more complex and more money

mike

Dysfnctnl85 02-11-2003 05:11 PM

So do people normally (I use that loosely) put 13B-REW (The FD engine right?) into their FBs and use the turbos from the FD? That would be an interesting combo...

j9fd3s 02-11-2003 08:42 PM

a turbo 2 engine is easier to put in, all you have to do is swap the front cover and the oil pan, the rew is harder

Either the Turbo 2 or lately the RE cosmo TT 13b has been the big thing in first gens.I hear the SE front cover doesn't mate up properly on the REW.This one is NA and see my new thread for my next swap. One huge turbo will make way in it after I nail the looks down on it.

Well a friend of my mom just moved from Puerto Rico to here in Texas and guess what his first car was!!

An 85 Rx-7 Gtu. It is in great condition, paint is good, Engine is good. Only thing wrong was that its rear wiper was broken and a crack on the front windshield. I think it only has around a 100k miles on it and it is a gorgeous car. He only paid $1500 for it. Maybe he was just lucky but it seems about right! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The GTU was a second gen.Do you mean GSL?or GS?or GSL-SE?

Joe Flo 02-11-2003 10:48 PM

Thats what I thought too!!! he said it was an 85 but had the 1st gen body style. Maybe he just didnt know. But I am 99% sure it was a GTU. Was the year wrong?

Joe Flo 02-11-2003 10:52 PM

Ahhh...now I am thinking about the car. Maybe it was a GSL. But no doubt 1st gen body style. When did they stop making the 1gen body? I will try and get a pic next time I see the car!
