12a distributor question

Default 12a distributor question

Does the N249 distributor have a TPS (throttle position sensor), and if so then where is it located and how would I make sure it's lined up properly? I have tried searching for this and all I come up with for TPS is 2nd generation and later, maybe I missed something or maybe there isn't one. Thanks for any help that can be given.

I think I meant CAS (crank angle sensor).

from what i read the crank angle sensor is only on cars that lack distributors. it is another means of determining when is the correct time to send power to the spark plugs.

if you are trying to do an overhaul or take off the distributor, there is a yellow mark on the eccentric pulley shaft that must be lined up with an indicator pin on the front cover.

If you by chance do not know how the distributor goes back on, even when the marks are lined up, there is a way to do it. These directions are taken from the Haynes manual

"At the bottom of the distributor shaft housing is a raised tally mark. turn the distributor shaft until this raised mark aligns with the circular tally mark on the distributor gear shaft. alignment of these two tally marks serves the same purpose as making marks on your own at the distributor body and rotor. "

After the marks are lined up and you go to install it in the motor what do you line it up with in there?

If you line up the rotor with the arrow pointing towards the L1 on the top of the distributor cap it should get you close enough to get it started. Then once it's warmed up a bit you put a timing light on it and set it to the exact spot using the timing pin on the housing and the mark on the pulley.

You can also line up the marks at the bottom of the distributor, there is a little line just above the gear and a mark on the bottom of the shaft (just above it). If you line those up then make sure you hold the top of the distributor when you stab it in and you should be pretty good there as well. Make sure you verify with a timing light after you get it in.
