Greetings again...not quite sure where my old post went...one day it was here and the next it was just...gone...nobody told me it was pulled but alas...its gone...so i'm guessing i must have offended a sponsor or someone decided to move it...didn't mean to offend anyone with my idea...as i thought thats what the forum was for...ideas :P

Anyway...here are a few pictures of the housings in their current state...sanded then painted with a very pretty chrome paint...plexi is installed...which was a major pain in the butt...now i just need the lights which should be here either tomorrow or friday...then i'll have pictures of these babys in my 1st gen https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

that and before/after shots plus the weights of the old lights vs the ones i made...should be loads of fun providing its not raining like it has the last few days https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Racer X 03-03-2004 10:42 PM

Damn thats cool man.I want some pics of them on the car before I make my judgement

Lacan91 03-03-2004 10:57 PM

i wanna see some pics too, (and how much would you charge to make me a set?) LOL

falcoln0014 03-03-2004 11:13 PM

lol...I'll have pics of them on the car whenever i finally get the lights...can't check my tracking on them...jcwhitney said they shipped them out 3/1...and they expected them to arrive 2/28...so i'm just hoping that they actually are on the way https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

This project has been very frustrating...mostly because of the plexi...so if i had to make another set i'd probably go insane...or torch the plexi...one of the 2 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

It actually wasn't a expensive project...just very time consuming...and i got cut...a lot...total for all my stuff was just over 100 bucks...thats lights...plexi...tons of nuts/bolts...various doodads...and a kit of tools for my dremel

the lights are only 2 3/4 in diameter...which is going to be one tight fit...the housing is only 6" wide internally...also i've got the 55watt bulbs that come in them for lows...and all i could find for highs is 130's...but i've seen 100's locally...so if they turn out to be too bright i'll nab a set https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

FikseRxSeven 03-03-2004 11:27 PM

are you using lexan for your cover?

falcoln0014 03-03-2004 11:38 PM

na...if i could find some I probably would...i'll see how these hold up for now...and if they don't...then i'll just have to break down and find some no matter how much it costs...right now i'm using an industrial grade plexi...its something that the hardware store normally sells for contractors to use in construction..."medium grade"...but it seems pretty tough

ioTus 03-04-2004 02:25 AM

Excellent man. I can't wait to see the finished product!! Keep us updated!

LethalRotor 03-04-2004 12:30 PM

looks real professional. good job. I can't wait to see them completed.

falcoln0014 03-04-2004 05:53 PM

Still waiting for my lights/bulbs to get here...they're coming snail mail...so go figure :P...if they don't come tomorrow then perhaps monday...in the meanwhile i'll just have to tinker with other stuff https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

falcoln0014 03-05-2004 12:54 AM

Out of pure boredom i just thought...and thought...and thought...about the project...and I figure i'll have to have something to hold the light down...so i don't hit 80 and have dual scoops https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

So i rounded up a few bungi cords...shoudl be able to clip where the old power motor control arm went...and there was something else...

oh...oh...yea...I changed the design a tad...instead of cutting a mounting plate for the lights I'm just going to use some l-brackets...it'll have 2 bolts holding it on the housing...then the lights bolt will drop down thru one of the upward facing holes

i'd re-do the drawings...but its really late...so I'll just do pictures when the lights come and I throw all of this stuff together

Ok...got them on my car...which took a little effort...pretty much every bolt on my car is rusted tight...but a little muscle and they come lose...or you pop the head off...one of the two https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

Anyway...here's a comparison photo of my old lights vs the new ones...I'll have a pic of how they look on the car in the morning.

You guys will just have to pretend the mud isn't on my car...when you live on a dirt road...and in arkansas...your cars don't get washed much https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

Racer X 03-06-2004 01:20 AM

Damn those look better light wise but I want to see them during the day on the car.

and more pictures...so whatcha think? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

drifter 03-07-2004 01:50 AM

I think if it were black instead of silver, it would look better, but good job all the same.

clean your car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Lacan91 03-07-2004 01:51 AM

i agree with drifter, the edges should be black. they look really good, wanna sell em? LOL

Loi

Racer X 03-07-2004 03:26 AM

NOt bad at all.For a DIY job they turned out really well. Now clean your car.And paint that silver **** black.

75 Repu 03-07-2004 03:36 AM

how do they light up at night.. I like the fact that those lights are only a bit over 2 inches in Diameter.. would be good for an FC kit..

falcoln0014 03-07-2004 03:41 AM

black hu?...I'll see what i can do monday https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I'm also looking for some different bulbs for the assemblys...they pop out rather easily...but both jcwhitney and the box are of no use...jcwhitney said it used a H3 replacement bulb...which was wrong...and the box calls for something that doesn't exist unless you go thru the dealer of the lights...and I don't think they sell to the public

So i pulled a light out...and its a 50 watt MR16/C...which i found out is a "flood light"...type A is "Narrow Spot Beam"...type B is a "Narrow Flood Beam"...and C is the "Flood Light"...So i have the crappiest of the 3 when it comes to using it as a headlight...figures https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

The dims are really about the same as the ones I had before...but the brights don't really do much...signs just glow a bit further out...so I'm going to see if I can get some type A's in 65 or 75 watts...probably 65's for lows and 75's for highs...but we'll see what I can find...if nothing locally tomorrow then I'll order some tomorrow night online...but like i said...its no worse than my old lights...so if I have to do much night driving i'll survive https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

The bulbs i've found that I like so far are made by Sylvania...which i've used ever since I got my car anyway...pretty good bulbs...never had them fail on me...specs...65 watts narrow spot beam...4000 hours of life expected...puts out 14000 Candlepower...wooot https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png...if I can't find anything better locally I'm going to grab a case of these...have to buy 10 but its only 37.70 for the case...and I really hate it when I run out of bulbs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

ooooh...and on a lighter note...the bungee hold down idea worked to keep them from flopping up and down at high speeds https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

falcoln0014 03-07-2004 03:46 AM

The lights that come in them are not the best...as I mentioned a second ago...it just figures of the 3 types they send mine with the crappy ones...and...its kinda crazy...it says DRIVING LIGHTS all over the box...and the picture on the back even shows them going further than...get this...normal bright headlights...blaaa!

But...what should I really expect...they only cost me 15 bucks a set...and they are really nice for the cash...quite a few I looked at locally would cost me that much just for one light...and they were plastic...like I need that...just something to break https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

but overall i'd say they light stuff up pretty good...its just lighting it up too close to the car right now...since its not the right kind of bulb...but i'll soon change that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rx7carl 03-09-2004 11:02 AM

The MTM kit uses really nice lamp assemblies, which are DOT compliant. They are availible from Susquehanna. Like $60 each.

Ok...I repainted them black...and I think they are adjusted properly for now...the proper bulbs should be here by the end of the week. I've got some body work to do over the next few days...as well as get my passenger side window back in the track...stupid thing keeps coming out

body work is because a full sized van cut me off yesterday...tore up the bumper on the passenger side...as well as cracked the turn signal assembly...and bent the bumper bar...so I'm waiting to see what the insurance says about it

i'll post more pictures when the new bulbs come

jebenkurac 03-10-2004 04:52 PM

lol i think it looked better with the silver, you could see the guts of it and ****, very james bond. but black looks good too, but silver would be kick ass if your car ad that mettalic orange showcar type paint job

ioTus 03-10-2004 05:59 PM

Looks good, but it looks photoshpped to me! I donno, it must be the picture quality.

See if you could get some different pictures, highlighting the entire car not jus tthe lights.

That way we can see if it fits together as a whole or not.

YucA 03-10-2004 07:36 PM

that doesnt look Pchopped...

thats badass!

if you have any trustworthy body shops or something like that, or if you feel comfortable working with fiberglass - i would attempt to makes a fiberglass molding to cover the metal insides....

just a suggestion

no photoshop involved :P...I'll try to get some more pictures...its just hard to get a good angle where i park my car.

And now...what you've all been waiting for...well...not really...the proper bulbs came in today...so now these little lights kick some major butt...I've got 65 watt low beams and 75 watt high beams...both are type "A" which is a spot beam...at 15-20 feet they spread about 5 feet wide unlike the floods that they came with...those things didn't go very far at all...

Heres another picture...this time comparing the old bulbs to the new...I used a different camera for the 2...the one on the left is the new bulbs...the one on the right is the old 50 watters...which somehow turned red when I used the other camera...oh well..doesn't hurt anything...you get the idea https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

I second this notion, you'd have a sweet looking setup then https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
