Check out what I got. 1979 mazda glc,, oh hell yes. I found it in a garage next door to one of my boy's houses. As soon as I saw this the heavens parted and I got tunnel vision. In my head I could see this car pulling nasty wheel stands off the line. I coul hear it idleing brap brap brap! Just writing this Im geting the shakes. The car has brand new welds 15". Brand new M/T slicks with the stickers still on them. Six point cage, totally gutted minus the dash. Some kind of racing seat came with the car. Line lock installed. Dual msd boxes. The rear end is supposed to be a late sixties early seventies datsun truck rear with 4-33 gears. The car has first gen brakes all the way around. Right now the only motor that I have thats worthy is my 12A half bridge. I had in my Fb it it was **** load of fun. The motor is fresh I had in my car for a short time and I kept destroing trannys and rear ends. All I can say about that is it was worth every ******* seconed. To top it of I want to throw some NOS on the car I ben sittin on this kit for a wile and Im finally gona use it. Let me know what yall think comments suggestions what ever.[attachment=38591:attachment]

Looks like a LOT of fun!! You should make GLC stand for Goodbye Lame Civic, hehehe!!,,,BB

bigboi12A 06-13-2006 12:42 PM

Thats funny I never thought of that.. I did not mean to post that **** twice oops https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Racer X 06-13-2006 12:54 PM

Looks awesome.I would love to build a street legal sleeper one of those with a 13B peri port in it just to scare the crap out of people. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Jeff20B 06-13-2006 01:13 PM

That is incredibly cool! Congratulations on an excellent find.

Kinda makes me wonder what I'm gonna do with mine. Wait, I know!

willie jspec 06-14-2006 04:14 PM

That car gives me mad flashbacks of la Isla. god bless that car man, that and a starlette or a datsun b21o those are the boriqua 1/4 mile cars of choice. BIG UPS!

bigboi12A 06-14-2006 04:38 PM

Yeah I can't wait to start ****** with it. The previos owner had a PP 13B appaerently and cut up a first gen motor mount and welded it to the unibody frame rails. The welds are sloppy and are cracked. seconed when I dopped my 12A in it sat all cocked to the right so that **** is going to be relaced. Ive been told that a Rx-4 cross member botls in where the swaybar is like cross member first then OE glc sway bar. I found this part but I'm going on hear say the price is reasonable 125 for Rx-4 cross member and Rx-4 motor mount. has any body else head of that **** working??? need some input or should I have some custom **** made up

willie jspec 06-14-2006 10:38 PM

Growing up I always remember the older guys cutting and welding there own ****, it was wierd like they split an rx7 mount and a glc mount and reweld them to make one. and it works great but i dont believe this is the correct way. just the grassroots way. but it works fine for street cars. All in all I think you should just have a place fab em up so you know its new and strong.you never know what your getting when you buy used ones.

Jeff20B 06-15-2006 03:01 AM

My car had an RX-3 front crossmember when I got it. It looked like it bolted right in. RX-3 stuff is what you want. Well, maybe not now that your can has already had somthing welded in there. The RX-4 thing may work with some minor cutting and welding to fit the car.

bigboi12A 06-16-2006 09:36 AM

It won't be too mutch of a hassel to remove the previous mounts. A little grindage with some possibel help of cut off wheel. Jeff I'm assuming that u also have GLC- Goodbuy Lame Civic,,, that **** kills me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif If so tell me about it..

Latin270 06-16-2006 11:18 AM

That thing looks like it can be a monster on the track!

Jeff20B 06-16-2006 02:53 PM

This is the only pic I have of the engine bay without an engine.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/index.php?...pe=post&id=7547

bigboi12A 06-17-2006 07:17 AM

Looks sweet. Is it a street car or is it going to be a strip monster? Don't matter It's hot either way. What Tranny is that? Tell me about it, what are you're palns...

Jeff20B 06-17-2006 02:00 PM

The tranny is a ribcase 5 speed probably from a Cosmo. Id' prefer a 1st gen tranny because they're lighter and can shift faster. That tranny has since come out and gone into my REPU. I have a similar tranny with a tighter gear ratio which I may put in if a 1st gen tranny isn't available when the time comes to put an engine into it. I can either do a 13B or a 12A. The 13B is built and ready to be fired up and broken in, but I'm short on carbs and flywheels. The 12A has everything it needs to go together and run except for apex springs.

I'm debating which to do. A flywheel and a carb, or a cheaper, less "cool factor" option of using a 99% complete 12A.

For now it will be a street car.

bigboi12A 06-18-2006 10:34 AM

Souds good either way, the 13b would be sweet, is it ported??? Ive had bad experiences with fist gen trannys I believe you said they "shift faster" Maybe your other trans needs a little help. Ive herd of guys shortening up linkages or shift rod to get shorter more percise throws. Never seen it done just heard about it. I had 2 real good 12a tannys and I DESTROYED thoes things. I guess it depends on a lot of ****. Hores power, clutch, and how you shift. Needless to say I romp my **** kinda hard to me thats what its all about. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Jeff20B 06-19-2006 12:55 AM

A 650 DP Holley may become available for the 13B. Same with a flywheel. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Still not sure about the tranny, but a 13B!!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif No 12A for me.

If the Holley idea doesn't work out, I've got a nice Hitachi carb sitting nearby that would get it up and running. They actually do well on street ports.

Once I get the old tranny out of the GLC, the flywheel can come off and go onto my freshly rebuilt 13B for my MG Midget project. Heh, I hate sharing parts. Anyway, the other (new) flywheel which was going onto another engine won't be needed since that engine needs a rebuild. That means the flywheel may be free to go onto the freshly rebuilt ported 13B in the GLC.

I'm taking a big risk doing this, but I know I just wouldn't be excited about a 12A. I'll just save if for a project for somebody else. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

bigboi12A 06-19-2006 08:25 AM

You do realize I have the carb you need. My boy in sanford has piles of fly wheels. I can hook u up!!!

hmmmmmmmm fly wheels you say what kind and is he willing to sell one i'm using a stock one andmy girl got me a centerforce clutch for fathers day so i need a fly wheel as well.let me know killer.

Jeff20B 06-19-2006 10:12 AM

Does he have any aftermarket light steel or aluminum flywheels? Does he have any stock flywheels with the number 304 cast on the back?

As for the carb, I don't want to get another Holley until I've tried this one.

bigboi12A 06-19-2006 10:35 AM

no after-market just stock,, what ever year turbo non turbo. I knwo this dude has it and I'll ask about the number u gave me,,,, Did I mention that my carb is a racing beat prepped dual feed 650 that they dont make any more,,,, lol...

Jeff20B 06-19-2006 11:43 PM

So is mine. The carb is probably 20 years old. It spent most of its life on a bridged 12A, then stored carelessly for a while. If it still works, it's going on the street ported 13B.

I just picked up a GSL-SE flywheel today. The price was right so I had to grab it. I also grabbed a GSL-SE pan. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

bigboi12A 06-20-2006 06:58 AM

how mutch did u pay for the flywheel

Jeff20B 06-20-2006 10:17 AM

It worked out to around $10.

bigboi12A 06-20-2006 03:26 PM

Right on,,, thats a sweet price. who ever u got it from didn't realize what they had, I believe those parts are worth quite abit more than ten dollars. Props on the find, so does this mean that your going to put the 13b in your glc.... that would kick serious ass... on an un related topic do you know what a glc weighs in at????

Jeff20B 06-21-2006 02:15 AM

We spent like $20 and I got the pan and flywheel and a couple O2 sensors and stationary gears. The flywheel just needs to be resurfaced. It looks like it's already been resurfaced once though. I'll have to find a shop that can grind down the upper surface where the pressure plate bolts go in because the friction surface would otherwise be to far away, and then rebalance the flywheel's built in imbalance/counterwight lump if necessary. Felix Miata says it's necessary on stock flywheels, so I'd better find a shop that can do it correctly.

Yeah, if this flywheel can still be resurfaced, the 13B will go into the GLC. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

The weight... Uh... I couldn't tell you. What I do know is jacking the rear of the car on the diff feels pretty light on the handle of my floor jack. The front feels heavier. I'd like to move the battery to the back. I think the car as a whole weighs similar to a 1st gen.

BeaterRX7 06-21-2006 12:44 PM

Ahh... memories.

I had a '78 GLC. One time we fit ten people and nine skateboards in it and drove ten miles. It took about 45 minutes and I had to rev, clutch, rev, clutch, rev, and clutch to get going from a stop. Then there was the time I slid it sideways and almost tipped it over. And the times I took it mudding. I wish I could have that car back now so I could shove a built 12A in it.

skidMcRotary 06-21-2006 02:44 PM

I have rx3 crossmemers in stock. rx4 wount work without mods

Jeff20B 06-22-2006 11:38 AM

BeaterRX7, just find yourself another one. Or an early 626. I'd like to do one of those some day.

Just wishing... I already have 6 vehicles in the driveway, and if I buy another Mazda it'll be either an RX-8 or another FB. I have too many projects to do before I try a GLC, like putting my 472 Caddy motor into an RX-7.

PercentSevenC 06-22-2006 09:32 PM

According to some quick Googling, a stock GLC weighs in at just under 1800 lbs. Very nice find, bigboi12A, should be awesome when it's done.

So you scrapped the 20B idea, eh Jeff? Too bad that didn't work out, but it'll be a beast either way.

Jeff20B 06-23-2006 01:28 PM

Yep. I'm going to install the tall geared tranny with a GSL-SE flywheel in the GLC. If the tranny sucks, I'll just throw in a 1st gen tranny. The reason I want ot use the tall geared tranny is because only 1st and 2nd are taller which means this can actually be considered a close ratio tranny. If the rear end was geared lower, the tranny would be ideal with either a bridge port or peripheral port. For now though, I think a street port and a relatively heavy (GSL-SE) flywheel with the tall geared rearend is a good compromise.

I've been messing with carbs lately and when the Hitachis are done, I'll move on to the Holley.

Hey, I think I can jet that Nikki for more power. Any luck gathering funds for the Sterling?

PercentSevenC 06-23-2006 03:54 PM

Sounds like a good plan.

As far as the Sterling, I just got some more money, but I still have a ways to go (had to buy a combo switch from Ken's shop, cost me $35).
