fitting the turbo to a 12a? or the entire 13b turbo motor in the 1st gen?
to get a 13b in is easy. just get a 12a front cover (from your 12a) and a 13b GSL-SE oil pan, and boom. its in. but getting all the gauges to work and everything else will take some effort. |

He is right, but there are some options out there that might help. 1. RE-Speed makes a subframe that will fit a 13b or a 12a in a first gen pretty easily. 2. As for the motor I am going to warn you, if you put it together by yourself you are going to spend 10k or more all together when everything is said and done for the conversion. your can buy a turn-key motor for about 8k with 350 rwhp 3. your tranny and rearend can't handle that for long so you will end up snapping axels and burning up syncros/gears. you would need a TII tranny, and re-enforced GSL-SE rearend. 4. Think hard about the camden FI supercharger kit. Its under 6k and your get boost and FI. Plus you will be spending way less for a serious 1st gen. |
thanks guys for the replies
there some places in melbourne australia that do a 13b turbo swap in a gen 1 for bout 5k i still have bout a year till im off my p's so ill save up n go crazy on it once im off |
8 grand for a turn key motor. Lets get real you can buy a used TII in good condition for 1500 maybe 2000, with transmission. Plus aftermarket ecu like haltech, microtech which adds 1000. Various other parts bout another grand. so you are at 4000 right there.
You should upgrade the brakes and tires. Granted your rear end may not last, but if you have a later series GSL it will be fine if you dont abuse it to hell. So for 5 grand and alot of reading on how to do it you can have a decent set up. Producing roughly 230 HP To buy a 350hp motor for 8 grand you would definetly need to upgrade everything and chances are you would end up spengin 5g ON TOP of the 8000$ motor. |
Most cars that are built under the 5k mark are junk! I am not saying that it can't be done but 5k will get you a pretty stock swap if done right. One of the only rx7's built for 5k that was worth a damn(and FI) was Woundups. His swap was 95% stock and made ~190hp to the wheels. A turbo FB will nickel and dime you to death.
If you want to make 350hp look at spending 10k just as zerocco said. Don't ask me what I have into mine. Here is a quick breakdown: Required: Motor 2000 Harness 100 Turbo 1000 Manifold 400 Wastegate 400 BOV 250 Exhaust 350 IC piping 150 Couplers 50 IC 100 EMS 1000 Coils 50 Spark plug wires 50 T2 tranny 250 Clutch/PP: 350 T2 clutch slave 50 T2 starter 100 Driveshaft 250 Tune 500 E fan 20 Fuel pump 300 Injectors 300 fuel rails 300 Boost gauge 50 Pillar pod for boost gauge 80 That is over 8k right there. Your only hope to make 350whp on a stock rx7 motor is on a rew, stock twins and a lot of boost. Good ideas: Wideband 400 3 core radiator 50 used suspension 400-700 brakes 100-1000 upgraded rear end 400-3000 battery relocation 200 It is very easy to drop 15-20k into a turbo FB |
