When looking at the rear of the Starter on a 80 RX does the large wire go on the left?

Smaller wire and Fuseuble link go on the right?

ON my 83 the thick wire with the large clip goes on the body side of the starter and the quick connect wire goes to the tranny side while the remote wire with the black connector sits on the top post of the starter.Your 80 might be different tho.

sgieldon 12-21-2002 11:39 AM

Thankyou RacerX!!!

I've been waiting for a long time for this question.

When your talking about the quick connect cable. Are you talking abut the Fusiable Link Wire???

One more maybe dumm question.

Does the ground strap comming from the driver side fender mount to one of the engine mount bolts???

F.Y.I This is a 80 motor going into a 84GSL Body.

Put the ground on anywhere where it makes a good connection to the block...atop the block where the 12mm holes are or were for the emmissions nest, or one of the bolts holding the tranny to the motor. As long as the connection is good/solid it really doesn't matter.

I agree.ON my 83 the ground is stock still and is the only wire run off the battery(for now)But I say run a ground to the starter, engine and body then you should be set.I will be running 4 guage to the starter soon and 8 guage everywhere else.Need anything else just post it here.I'm here alot. :smirk:

Racer X 12-22-2002 11:07 AM

Yeah I did mean fusible link wire.

sgieldon 12-23-2002 11:07 AM

Thanks again RacerX and everyone else.

Got it all wired up and started right up.

Ran at 7000 rpm at startup and the headers glowed bright RED.

Damn Holley.

Tweaked it for an hour and finally got it down to 900 rpm, without burning the car and garage up!!!

This was the first time it got started since I built this machine.

Went to start it up today and it ran fine for about 45 minutes and now I can't keep it running.

Getting plenty of Fuel i.e. 6lbs pressure from the RB Holley setup and Blue Pump with Regulator.

Any ideas what to look for next. Compression is at 95+.

I is lost on this one.

Thanks

Racer X 12-24-2002 01:07 AM

Does it idle or just dies during use???

sgieldon 12-24-2002 11:49 AM

Hey RacerX;

It starts right up. When it gets to normal temp i.e. choke opens up, that's when the engine quits.

One thing I have not tried yet is to unblock the fuel return line. Accordingly to RacingBeats Holley setup instructions, that line is to be blocked off???

Any other ideas.

I'm on the road till Sat. So the Looks to cool and a lotta f-in $$$ into it will have to wait till then.

Have a Good One.

Steve

P.S. How many of these cars are you working on now???

Racer X 12-26-2002 01:39 AM

Just this one car for this summer then I might start another one in the fall.Your chokes should close at operating temp and only be open for the warm up period.

Hey, give us an update please. I have a Holley set-up also and had a hard time at first. I found that I had a vacuum leak around the intake to engine gasket, I installed a double gasket and blocked off all other vacuum ports ,it sounds good now. Update soon , I have just about the same set-up.
