First, I don't know anything about rotary's. I'm a V-8 guy. I have a few big blocks sitting around, so I started a project. I bought an 80 RX-7, 12a, it ran, but badly. I got it to do the conversion from the rotary, to a big block (440, .060 over, forged crank, 6-pack rods, Weiand Tunnel Ram, with twin 780cfm Holley's.) It's a tight fit, but looking at some of the info on here, the rotary seems like it could be a lot of fun. I'm no stranger to boost, and if I kept the 12a, I would certainly need to turbo charge it. But, being that it's not a pushrod motor, it's going to take a little relearning on my part.
What would it take to make an honest 300+ rwhp out of the 12a. Planning a blow thru setup on a holley carb. Does a rotary suffer from the same sort of detonation problems as a piston motor? more likely, less likely. What are the limits of boost when using 93 octane? Who has experimented with water injection? |

www.rotaryshack.com robert has made 720bhp out of his 12 turbo. 300bhp is acheivable.. And more fun than any 300hp piston would be!
