What is the drawbacks of having a blowthrough setup on a streetcar? For my situation, its not gonna be a true daily driven street car but a weekend car. I mean, I know everyone is fuel injection right now but I was thinking that if you have the right people to tune it, wouldnt it fall perfect for fast low budget street car? is there alot of maintence on a blow through set up?

Blow-through is bad in so many ways. Go Nitrous with a carb, its safer.

well I dont see how, cause a friend of mine who I havent seen in a year, runs a full bodied rx3 with a streetported 12A with a mitsubishi 20G from a mitsu box truck, and has ran consistent #'s every week (10.709,10.708,10.702...) and the only issue he has had was from the jetts on a carb but only cause he's a novice with this turbo blow through thing...Anyways I brought this up cause my other car thats been in the garage for about two years is my 75 beetle. Its sitting on jack stands with a 13B RE from my old job ,rebuilt and streetported. But I have no intake manifold or turbo set up. Thats why I was thinking about doing carburated.

Without writing 5 pages of why a blow-through setup is bad, i can only suggest you read up on it. Your buddy's racecar is much different than a street car. And a carb simply cannot cope with the drastic changes in pressure and air temps to be accurate.

Ticking time bomb.

We've built several with zero problems. However there is someone else here with over 30 years of doing blow-through setups, and there are quite a few tricks that I've noticed no one knows..

I'm building a rx7 blow through right now. It's simple and complicated at the same time. It will drive u nuts if u don't know what ur doing but if u have the right help its easy.

I use holley carbs. Secret is to shim the throttle plates, smaller idle air bleeds, step down boosters, boost float, no choke. Use a fuel injected pump with a aeromotive bypass regulator. Don't go cheap on the regulator. Forget trailing ignition and disconnect it. Use a msd BTM or fully programable.

Need help contact me

Id like more info on this as well, blow thru meaning carb feeds the turbo air inlet then into engine or turbo sends pressurized air thru carb and then into engine??

Blow through means air is pulled into turbo pressurized, then pushed through carb into engine.

It's one of my favorite topics. It's a very low cost way to achieve high performance. I've done a couple cars with a friend and am doing my first solo build right now. The hardest part is tuning the carb to run good on the street. Mine runs very nice and reliable but I've been doing it for awhile. If u want help or info just ask
