Are we all talking about drag racing?

Yes stock STi beats stock FD in the 1/4. Not by much though. Maybe if I had some racing slicks haha (seriously)

I know you guys gotta road race. Come on! Although the STi has less of an understeer tendency than the EVO it is still there. On a track/road with tight turns if you can handle your FD well you really should be able to take the STi or EVO.

Although it is hard to find drivers that are equally matched these days. Anyone else got thoughts on it?

Also consider you pay twice for the STi than the FD. And its not a rotary so who cares. lol jkjk

I do many DE's with my FC and consider most STi's to be rolling chicanes if you get my drift. They are not fast on road course, except when it is wet. Otherwise they are heavy, have to break early, and do not rotate well in the turns, and I guess they have decent straight line speed but no match for a 2500 lb 400+HP car.

the difference between driving an fd and an evo is amazing. once youre adept at the proper way to drive them i think it'd be pretty damn close, I know I have full confidence in my evo, i can throw it into almost any corner at a good speed and all i have to do is look at where i want to exit the turn and the car winds up there, i can do basically the same with the fd, but only when its nice out.

When I first started driving the evo it actually shocked me with some of the corners it was able to handle but I also figured out that driving that car is all about making the proper entrance to the turn. If you line up wrong it gets hairy. Feel free to ask some of the local 5-0, they will eventually learn not to chase an evo through twisty "barely able to fit 2 cars" dirt roads lol.

i love having a wide assortment of great "driver" cars.

Agreed. They are fun on the dirt though. Anyone else?

They make you feel confident but they are not fast. Go do an open track day and you'll see. When you can run with Ferrari 360's and 430's and CGT's then your moving.

If you ever get to a track you'll totally understand this.

been to a track, I've done lots of things since we've last talked .

The evos not fast, I know that, mines stock. But my fd is/was fast and i can make the evo just as fast for a lot less money.

Just as an update on me i now have my 89t2 almost finished which has a goal of mid500-600 hp just finishing the wiring, a 94fd which had about 450-500hp before it spun a bearing, my stock evo w/ 2k miles and a beater s4.

I dont just talk now lol i have the skills, knowledge and cars to back it up .

But yea awd is hot, just heavy and slow stock (altho stock the evo9 runs high 13s)

AWD is heavy and slower at high speeds and just does not corner well. After a few rack days is was apparent to me the pecking order on the track. Evo's and STi's were not top dogs. Any Honda Product with the exception of NSX's were slow. When the 1st Elise showed up on a road course I was excied to see it move, ( wanted to buy one) I was bummed when I caught up to and passed it. I was expecting it to be much faster.

When I tracked my MINI I was suprised how quick it was, but at the end of the day it was not really that fast, lap times told me so. It was fun and confidence inspiring but not fast.

There were always surprises but they were few between, my FC was always a surprise and I got a huge kick out of that. The visits in the pits after the 1st session were priceless.

FYI - GT35R is going on my car in weeks, new engine with HUGE street port, a custom 30% bigger throttle body, ported intake and other go fast goodies, huge fuel lines and enough fuel to support 700RWHP. I am shooting for 460-500 RWHP and hope it is drivable. Car weight is down under 2400 lbs now too.

Yea the first time i drove a mini i wanted to track it.

What type of fuel system you going to be running? I've got two pumps, -8 from inside the tank to two big BG fuel filters, to custom set of SuperNow! rails, 890/1680's, aeromotive FPR, -8 to the tank. I've also got a nice ignition setup, thats on my FC. On my FD I've only redid the engine compartment enough to handle the T04Z it has as i wasnt looking to make crazy numbers with it....thats what my yellow car is for . The T04Z is crazy tho, apparently lots of road/track guys in japan are using it on their cars now, the boost is very nice not like a complete on/off switch which is obviously important.

Just took a peak at this thread and noticed Jims...holy ****.

When I rode with a friend in his Evo I was awestruck at the confidence with which he negotiated corners. After experiencing the car on the street one would assume that it would throwdown at the track...if that's not the case, then why do AWDs always take the time-attacks?

I don't have any track experience what-so-ever, I just read a lot...

The EVO is a whole nother machine when compared to the STI; I've watched many time trials it's like two different classes racing. EVO might not be the quickest thing, but it's pretty quick imo; as far as vs a Wankel, depends on the Wankel; though I'd pit an FC against an STI any day, the huge weight difference between the two really makes the RX series shine. Though it does come down to the driver; a solid launch from AWD is pretty gnarly, though if you don't spin the wheels you should be able to keep up in the RX-7, and overtaking would be easier; the Wankel's just superior from a mechanical point of view.
