I will swing by an alternator shop and let them at it.
I got freaked out on my way home. I redlined for like the 5th time and the alternator was making a weird noise (humming at idle and gets louder with the revs). I'm not sure what it is since it is dark out :(
so to clarify, if I don't use the washer: I just tighten the nut as much as possible with the impact gun and don't worry about it ?

Use the washer. It's there for a reason. ;) Just have the shop get it on for you.

I wasn't able to get it in at the time because I didn't have much room to play with and the 22mm sucked (it was way too deep). Not to mention the alternatoe was hotter than hell (hot potato, hot potato  )

I had the same problem with that washer, but once I got the pulley down on the shaft the washer went right on.

what happened was that the nut was rubbing and grinding against the pulley/alternator. So they had to fill in with a substance and let it harden so the nut won't have any play. I got them to get it on with the washer.
damn, I know better next time
:bigok:
