hello everyone, my 2004 RX8 seems to have a long crank before starting. it also sounds like low compression. does this ound like a typical concern and should i be worried? does anyone know what the compression should be and the proper procedure for checking it. Thanks Rob

Apex seal length

I measured two new 3-piece apex seals and they were 80.10mm long. My rotor housings narrowest points are 80.0020mm and 80.0049mm. The How to Modify your RX7 book says to sand the apex seals down to 79.90mm length for street use. Some people don't clearance the length of new Mazda seals and say they're fine as new. Ito says to clearance apex seals to 0.0015" narrower than rotor housing width. And others still say clearance it 0.004" to 0.0045" narrower than rotor housing width. Who is right?

The triangle piece is super glued to the upper piece. Should I super glue the lower piece to the rest of the apex seal, to make it all into a one piece? So I can sand it all as one piece and get a uniform cut on the apex seal? How thick is the super glue between the top piece and the triangle piece, should I subtract that out when computing the length?

Also, I assume I don't sand the triangle piece. Just sand the other end(s).

No Idle, No Oil Pressure

I just bought an '88. It turns over fine, but won't start consistently. After trying for quite a while, I got it to start, but it idled up then immediately died. After a few more tries, it started again and I kept it running with the gas pedal. I then noticed that it was showing no oil pressure, so I immediately let it die again. The guy I bought it from says that he was driving it and it got hot so he parked it. My uneducated guess at this point is oil pump, but I'm open to suggestions if you all have any. (I'm working on pulling the sending unit off another RX-7 we've got to see if thats the issue with the gauge not moving).

1987 Turbo II Smog Pump Bracket

Hey there fellow Forum-Goers,

I have sort of a backwards request from you all. I have a 1987 Turbo II that has been off the road as I restore it to operating condition. HOWEVER!! I am missing the bracket for the smog pump! I absolutely need this part, as I am in an emissions-required area, and without that bracket I cannot mount the smog pump!

Therefore, my request to you is this: If there is anyone on this forum, or if you know anyone, that is performing an emissions component removal, then please please PLEASE contact me!! I am more than willing to buy this part from anyone that is willing to sell it. I'll pay shipping as well.

It may sound like a desperate and silly plea to some of you, and I'm certain that I'll get the standard "Well, why don't you just remove all the emissions parts?" Ad the answer is because emissions testig is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY in my area, ad without this part, the car may stay off the roads for another year cooped up in a garage. I don't want to see that happen, so please contact me if you have any ideas at all.

Attached is a picture of the part that I need out of the Factory Service Manual. It's the part labelled 13-920 in a box in the diagram. The goofy arm there.

Again, PLEASE let me know if you have any ideas or places that I may be able to find this part!!

Ok so i am new here and might be posting this in the section but it is the only one i could start a topic in. I am in the market for an rx-7 second gen turbo or non. I found two one is an 87 non turbo with 13b. Hasnt ran for a min.... The new owner just purchased from a friend who was gettin deployed, supposably has had a new engine installed and car ran great for a while, then fuel pump went out? What is the basic fuel pump test on these? I looked at the car and the engine looks good to me (new to rotary though) I was wondering what all i should check for? I am going to take try and get some power to it tomorrow and see what i can find out, before making any decisions. so let me know what or where you think i should start checking?

The second car is an 86 13b non turbo have not looked at this one yet but the guy says it has lost injector signal both are same price just wanna make sure i am not gonna get stuck with something that is gonna cost me 3 or 4 times as much as i pay for it you know thanks.

Haltech ECUs

Hey guys,
So I've been out of the loop for a long time.

I recommended to my friend to use a haltech e6x since I've been using an e6k for the past 10 years with no reliability issues.

I've noticed that Haltech came out with the P1000 and they are about the same price.

Can anyone tell me how good these ECUs are compared to the e6k and x in reliability and ruggedness? I remember the time the E11 came out and it was a disaster.
