Can you run a IDE hard drive and an ATA harddrive on the same computer? I'm kind of talking out of my ass here, but I am A+ Certified and have built a few systems. I would say yes, if the motherboard supports both types. I have an IDE hard disk and an SATA DVD-ROM in my box, and that's not really any different. |

I was always confused by the naming. I've heard Ultra ATA, which is the same as IDE I think. But SATA is a different connector. Like MR t2 said, if the motherboard has both connectors, it should work.

I poked around the web a little. A few people have had trouble, but the consensus is "sure, it'll work". Here's a typical discussion:

it will work or rather should work, they are usually backward compatible in order to support older drives, even still many of the cd/dvd drives are not sata/uata
