I've got a question. The motor in my 88 Turbo II is blown. So, now I have to perform an engine swap. I'm going to swap in an S5 engine. While the engine is out, I'm going to change the clutch and flywheel.



For the swap, I was told that I need the counter weight from an S5 automatic? Is this correct? I thought I just needed an S5 counter weight. Does it have to be an automatic???

the counter weight is made in to the flywheel on the manual transmission car... You need the counter weight off a automatic because aftermarket flywheels don't have the counter weight built in, so they male them to bolt up to the automatic counterweight.

In your case what u need is a new flywheel. U need to get a s5 turbo flywheel, the Mazda OEM flywheels have their counterweight cast into the flywheel itself.



If you go with a lightweigth flywheel u will need to get a S5 auto tranny counterweight for it. Yo will know when u buy it. S5 NA rotors are the same weight as S5 TII rotors.

I'm picking up an Exedy Hyper Single Clutch. It incorporates the clutch and the flywheel together.



So, general consensus is I need a S5 automatic counterweight? Huh? Cool. (Anyone happen to know the part number)?



ASSUMING that I swap in a S4 engine (along w/ aftermarket clutch and flywheel),...do I go w/ a S4 automatic counterweight, in this scenario???

you have to use the counter wieght for the rotors you have. for example s4 rotors need an s4 counter wieght. 83-85 12a rotors need the 83-85 counterwieght

the auto is a seperate counterweight, while a manual is on the flywheel

if you are holding a counterweight in your hand its from a auto

I have a question, so if I have a 90 gxl manual car and I bought a 90 gxl automatic motor, I would have to use the automatic counterweight to run with the manual transmission? But then I also am getting a lightweight flywheel with matching counterweight for the flywheel with a stage 2 exedy clutch
