guys, i"m planning to get a rx7 fd 92-93'. wanna know the potential of the standard engine, like how to modify, costs, reliability, HPs that can be expected and where get the parts. whats a 20b and 13b? i know 13b has 2 rotors & 20b has 3 rotors, does the displacement increase by 50%? can a 13b be upgraded to a 20b or i'd have to buy a 20b engine separately. heard the 20b is for automatics only. can it be manualised?

my friends are asking me to consider either Evo 4-6, Supras 2JZ 6 speed manual turbo, and even a WRX STI.

what advantages does a FD has over the other cars mentioned above. i'm totally fresh to this rotary stuff.

i'm currently driving a honda itr w/b20b full race with abt 200+whp. sick of getting killed by turbo cars. well they say if u cant beat them, join them. but i wanna be among the fastest, if not the fastest.

looking for some enlightening from experts.

tks.

the stock rx7 13b engine is good for about 320-350rwhp if you want more it needs to be ported, then 450-550rwhp is doable. the 20b does add 50% displacement, but the extra length interferes with the steering rack, so it needs a $2000 custom subframe. the 20b makes 280hp stock and if your willing to open the engine and buy a big turbo you can have as much hp as you want.

the big advantage the rx7's have over all those other cars is that its lighter, even the heaviest rx7's wiegh under 3200lbs

is there any more better conversion than the 20b? heard of r26b....what's that? if i were to do a mod, i'll make sure the basic displacement is maximized...... and in a drag race, will the rx7 fd lose out to other 4wds like evo, gtr and sti cos its a 2rwd? how to compensate for the loss?

R26B is the Le Mans 4 rotor race engine 700@9000 NA.

I lose 1/8 mile sprints all the time against Evo/WRX/GTR. RWD can't compete at the start. Gimme a 1/4 & it's the other way!

We have had all these cars thru our shop and I know the guys with them.

Evo 6 is cool, fast & fun handler. Better than Rex in the right hands

WRX is OK but not hard edged as Evo even in Sti form and can understeer like a ****. An inexperienced driver will perform best in a WRX

Both obviously 4 door sedans with almost sports car charectaristics

GTR is good but not fast in std trim, cost a lot to modify, is awesome when modified, expensive to fix when broken, heavy & you can feel it sometimes, gotta be good to take it to the edge of the envelope, awesome when you do!

Supras look hot, a bit heavy, great motor, good handling, good performance more a GT than a sports car.

Rx7 is an uncompormising sports car, compact, relatively light, RWD, 2 seater, a bit down on power std but bolt ons fix that. Second best engine in the known universe

In the 'known' universe 20B is it.

In the undiscovered parts of the universe are twin turbo R26Bs that idle at 700 get 30 mpg, produce 1000 hp and cost $500 from salvage

I'm sure. If you believe, it will happen.......

if we knew the right people they would be happy to make an r26b, and it would be a lot of cash too

Mazda will sell you one if you have the cred.

Last I heard was $35000 US for an assembled block!
